re: JJ Redick's career arc

I'm confused at what the point of interest is with JJ redicks career arc. I think it follows a very natural path for a shooter (or anyone else) in the nba. Early struggles and then finding his role. His "prime" might be a little longer and later than a typical player because he doesn't rely on athleticism to produce and it takes time to carve out a role on the right team and then excel at it.
In comparison, a player very similar to redick had his best years at the same age that redick is right now. Therefore, I find nothing interesting about JJ redicks career path. I'll ask again, what am I missing?

I think it's because a) He plays on a high profile team (big city, 2 of the 10 biggest names in the NBA) and b) because he was a huge name in college.
He has a name recognition factor that Kyle Korver, Jeff Hornacek, Steve Kerr, etc never had.

a little used player in ORL to a starter on a perennial deep playoff team in a stacked west is pretty interesting.
his first 6 years he was basically Patty Mills type role player. Now he is playing at near all star level.

His 3 point shooting has been unreal the last two seasons
Entering the 2014 season, he was a career 39% three point shooter. These last two seasons, he is shooting 46%

How many times does a player go from "possibly not getting a 2nd contract" to "top 4 player on a contender"? Seriously, I can't think of any.
If you don't have success early in your career in the NBA you usually don't make it. He was 25 years old, not playing and shooting 39% from the field, he was close to being done. Korver had a much different beginning to his career.

Exactly. And at his current contract he's underpaid.

Ive been racking my brain and just genuinely curious what players have gone from outright bad to some level of good NBA player?
Demarre Carroll and Robin Lopez were the only two I could really come up with but Carroll didn't play that much and Lopez was never as bad as Redick was.
It would be like if Terrence Ross or Austin Rivers became a top 10 SG.

He was outright bad for 2 years. He asked for a trade during the 2007-08 season, didn't get it and I guess realized that Stan Van Gundy was someone who he needed to follow if he wanted to get his talents recognized. Courtney Lee leaving after the 08-09 run definitely helped as well.

Watching him languish in Milwaukee was sad, there was no way he would getting any kind of meaningful production when you have Monta&Brandon Jennings as your backcourt.

In basketball especially the NBA you typically don't have this kind of resurgence in year 10.
