Church is average defensively and he is considered "slow" by some standards

I guess Minaya felt like doing something to shake up the malaise surrounding the team. FMart just got put on the 15day so even the subs for the subs are getting hurt. The Mets are literally punchless and are trying to manufacture runs with a AAAA lineup.

I am officially indifferent to this deal, but it doesn't say much that the Braves have to send cash with their starting RF to get the Mets starting RF with his .280BA/.332OBP/.375SLG/.790OPS
65H/2HR/22RB lines and 6 more years in age

Something encouraging I just read is that Church is hitting something like .334 away from Citi with a .900+ OPS

MLB radio said minaya thinks Francouer is a better OF and that being RH he can hit for more power cause the LF porch is shorter than RF or something to that effect.

but for people saying this is a bad trade....really, who gives a frick about either of these guys? its not a make or break thing by any means

Atlanta radio has been wanting to get rid of Francoeur since last season. They've been screaming about it this year. This can't be seen as much of a surprise

I'm glad about the trade, but im not jumping up and down.

Francoer was my favorite player in 2006-07, but he has just been pitiful the last 2 years. I think you could easily say that Francoer was the worst hitter out of the starters on the team. The Braves needed another bat, and instead of us going out and getting a great hitter, we got rid of a bad hitter. Ryan Church is a better hitter than francoer, so this is definitly a good trade.

maybe so but he is 34, he is a step down defensively and he has very little power so I don't know how good of a trade it really is for either team

rob neyer killing minaya:

quote:

Wow. Church must really have worn out his welcome with the Mets. Since coming off the DL in early June, Church's line is .290/.336/.402 ... far from good for a corner outfielder, but decent enough compared to most of the Mets' other outfielders ... and of course a far sight prettier than Francoeur's .250/.282/.352 line for the season.
Defense? According to UZR, there's little difference between them and Church might actually be better.

Handedness? With Fernando Tatis and Gary Sheffield, the Mets already had two righty-hitting corner outfielders; now they've got three.

So, let's review: The Braves got a decent hitter and fielder who bats left-handed, and thus can platoon (or semi-platoon) with Matt Diaz in right field. The Mets got ... what, exactly? If you figure it out, drop a line to Jerry Manuel. He's going to need all the help he can get with this one.

Update: Awesome quote from Omar Minaya: "One thing we like about Francoeur is the amount of games that he plays."

you're off 4 years...hes only 30.

ill take that step down defensively for a bat any day. And Francoer didnt have any power this year either, so its all good. And I went to a zephers game 3-4 years ago when Church was on the AAA nationals team, and he hit 2 homers to deep center and a double off the wall. I wouldnt say he has little power.

so I don't know how good of a trade it really is for either team
I don't see how this doesnt help us.....

Is there a lot of real estate in RF at Citi?

so do you reconsider what you said earlier...

Church's contract ends next year i think....so it doesnt matter if hes 30 or 34. He wont be with us next year unless he goes apemode for the rest of the year and we want him still.

the dude has 49 HRs and 106 2B in 5 1/2 seasons

I don't care what he did in one game in the minors, he has little power
