And we're at a point where we could put Kershaws current run in the discussion but that's a topic for another day

Bonds, Woods, Federer, and Phelps are the first that come to mind.

I want to say guys like Jordan, Shaq, and Lebron from basketball are unrivaled in more recent basketball history.

Larry Johnson, RB, Chiefs 2005 season weeks 8-16. The most unstoppable force I've ever seen at that position over a 9 week period.

You could also just mention his 2005/2006 seasons. Both were incredible.

It has to be someone from an individual sport maybe Anderson Silva, or Roger Federer.

I would go with Vitali Klitschko

45-2 record
41 KOs
2 losses cam due to injury while up big on the cards

Never been knocked down
Never been behind on the cards at any point in any fight

From 2011 to 2016 Cristiano Ronaldo has scored 53,60,55,51,61 & 51 goals in a season. He's currently sitting on 387 goals in 378 games since joining Real Madrid.

Pedro
quote:

In the span of 1999 and 2000, Martínez allowed 288 hits and 69 walks in 430 innings, with 597 strikeouts, an 0.83 WHIP, and a 1.90 ERA. Some[6] statisticians believe that in the circumstances — with lefty-friendly Fenway Park as his home field, in a league with a designated hitter, during the highest offensive period in baseball history — this performance represents the peak for any pitcher in baseball history.

Gretzky's peak
Easily this.

From the 1981-87 seasons, the fewest goals in a regular season was 52, fewest assists was 118, and fewest points was 183. 4 of those 6 seasons he finished the regular season with over 200 points. Not to mention the 47 points he scored in the 1985 playoffs. Easily the greatest peak in major team sports.

All of this in an 80 game season.

Babe Ruth, 1926-1930.

Can't believe nobody has mentioned Tyson yet. His best years weren't against world beaters but he destroyed the competition in the mid-80s.

And in each of these 6 seasons, NO ONE finished a season within 65 points of Gretzky.

Tiger.

Golf has the slimmest margins. And though he was up against some relative fatties, that wasn't his fault. He literally transformed the sport.

I believe Mike Tyson, at his peak, was the scariest boxer to ever exist.

That said, an honorable mention goes out to JR Richards -- one of the most dominant, yet relatively unknown MLB pitchers. His 4 seasons of ERA, Complete Games, IP, SO, FIP and WHIP -- the dude was absolutely incredible. And he played on some absolutely shite Astros teams. The fact he did not win the Cy Young in 79 is almost criminal. Fricking Bruce Sutter wins with only pitching 100 innings? Would have loved to see a non-stroke victim JR pitch into his 30's.
