Is the steeplechase the dumbest event in all of sports?

I have no idea what the logic is having a bunch of hurdles and water barriers on a track.

A) How many sports have events? B) It's a historical event. What is the point of any hurdle event anyway? What's the point of the triple jump? What is the pole vault?

It's the greatest track event. It is a conceptual incarnation of cross country in a controlled environment. The men who run it are modern day gladiators .....running a distance mortals can't fathom while jumping with wet shoes. That Emma Coburn is hot.

What's the logic behind any sport?
Oh let's run around with a ball and hit each other until we cross this magical line that's worth 6 points. wait that's not all, after crossing said line we'll kick the said ball for an extra point.
Let's throw this small hard ball at each other and hit it with a stick. After that well run around 4 bases until we touch the 4 th one which is worth a point unless the ball makes it to the bag before you or your tagged, then frick you.

The Steeple, the 800m and the 400m hurdles are probably the most naturally grueling races in track.

I'd actually love to try this. XC skiing is from what I've heard, as great a workout as swimming (total body), and then to have some fun shooting downfield targets by calming yourself as quickly as possible... Sounds ridiculous but fun

I mean, any event centered around people running in circles seems sort of dumb, so why not make it an obstacle course?
