I think today's SGs and SFs blow the 80s/90s out of the water.
SG is arguably the weakest position or 2nd weakest position in the league right now.
Kobe, Harden, Wade, Bledsoe, DeRozan, Afflalo, Matthews, Thompson, and Butler? Who else?
Today's PGs are better scorers/shooters, but the elite before were better than today's elites in regards to passing.

No because the C/PF are garbage compared to any year from 1980 to 1999

I think you're focusing a little too much on top tier 80/90s talent vs. top tier current talent.
The talent is higher from top to bottom.

Good luck ever scoring on that team

The game is different, but the talent is the same. I think players today are more specialized than they were in the 90s. Meaning, there are more guys who do one thing particularly well (3P, pass, defense etc). I think the 90s had more well rounded players.
There were twenty players who averaged 20+ PPG in 1995
There are eighteen who average 20+ PPG in 2015
There were sixteen players who averaged 10+ RPG in 1995
There are twelve who average 10+ RPG in 2015
There were ten players who averaged 8+ APG in 1995
There are seven who averaged 8+ APG in 2015

Yeah, because Durant is a shooting guard.

More talented? Yes
However, fundamentals have taken a hit. The number of elite low post scorers and jump shooters has decreased.

I was waiting for this post. SFP and rocket31 will kill you for it. Low post scoring is likely gone because the skilled big guys are now Nowitzkis and Morey moneyball stuff says you need three point shooters. Marc Gasol types are outliers.

It depends how you look at "Today" bc 80s/90s is a 20 year span...
PG: CP3, Kidd, Nash vs. Magic, Stockton, Thomas
SG: Kobe, Iverson, Wade, Ray Allen vs MJ, Drexler
SF: LeBron, Durant, Pierce vs. Bird, Pippen, Wilkins
PF: Duncan, Garnett, Dirk vs. Barkley, Karl Malone
C: Shaq, Howard vs. Olajuwon, Robinson, Moses Malone, Ewing, Parish
I know this is a very small sample size and I may have even missed some top guys, but to me the only position that completely runs away with it is Center. I think Shaq is the best overall, but the depth from the 80s/90s is insane.

Low/mid post scoring has always and will always be the #1 most important thing in the NBA.

I don't see how anyone could argue the SG talent today is better. SF people think LeBron and KD and thats it. They're the best players currently, but the quality of those players after the few "elite" are bad.
LeBron
KD
Melo
George
Deng
Gay
Parsons
Ariza
Batum
no one screams great at all outside of maybe 4.

They were better back then because they actually had fundamentals.

The only two positions in the NBA that are "deep" right now are PG and PF
Although you could argue that in the 80s/90s guys like Lillard and Irving, who are 6'3"+ and are not big passers, would be playing SG back then. So if you take that into consideration, SG is pretty deep.
SF and C are hands down better in the 80s/90s. No contest, no debate about it.

Do you seriously not think KD could play SG? Today's NBA has sort of abandoned the idea of designated positions.

This... And the fact that LeBron James is on the team and can play any position you need him to. So, play KD at the 3 and LeBron at the 2 if you really want to.
