athletes evolve over time
the ones in 10 years will be superior to the ones today.
why do people still not understand this?

I don't get this argument. What made past generations more talented?
I'd agree if we were talking about the college game, but with the influx of Euro talent and the evolution of NBA offenses the talent level is at an insane level.

I think the top end guys of the 80/90s were overall better basketball players. Not better athletes. I think the depth of the league is far better now and the teams overall are better top to bottom.

In what ways? Dwight Howard is probably the only top end player in the NBA who isn't an insanely skilled basketball player.
ESPN Rank's top 15 NBA players:
15. Tony Parker
14. Marc Gasol
13. LaMarcus Aldridge
12. Joakim Noah
11. Melo
10. Dwight
9. James Harden
8. Kevin Durant (they ranked him here because of the preseason injury)
7. Kevin Love
6. Steph Curry
5. Blake Griffin
4. Russell Westbrook
3. Anthony Davis
2. Chris Paul
1. LeBron

I think all influx of guys going straight from hs to the nba(and then the 1 and done) had a negative effect on the overall fundamental skill level in the nba.

Yes op the NBA is the only sport which exists that the athletes somehow manage to regress instead of progress.

Again I don't know how you can see this
What negative skill sets do you see?

With the way things are moving, in time, all NBA players will revert back to underhand free throw shooting form.

It is infuriating man. CBB blows now in large part and most of that is due to these negative skill sets people bring up. The NBA though? Yeah I don't see it.
Still waiting on examples.

Easily more talented today.
Yes, easily. Not even a debate unless you're a nostalgic fool.
