No, that would be Jim Boeheim. He only has four final fours in almost 40 years at a power conference school. For an "all-time great", that record is inexcusable. Same thing with Bobby Knight. He should made a lot more than five final fours. The final 15 years of his coaching career were ugly and painful. Coach K is a much better coach than Bobby Knight ever was. So was Dean Smith. I would take Pitino over him as well.

Final Four in 2011 and 2014.

He was an 8 seed in 2014 with 2 lottery picks and a shite load more of 5 star players. If you arent elite, he wont develop you.

Just the number 1 recruit in the country who might not be a lottery pick after being coached by Cal.

He got John Harrelson and Darius Miller to the fricking NBA.

And people act like he never coached at Memphis or UMass and built those programs with a LOT less talent.

Come the frick on.

How? His best scorer in Murray went 1-9 from 3. The bigs were complete no shows.

He didnt get Murray enough open shots. If this was Johnny Jones, yall would be blasting him left and right.

Murray got the exact type of shots he normally gets. The length of the guy guarding him from IU really bothered him at times.

He had stacked teams at Memphis dude. Those teams were stacked with 5 star players also.

I really don't see what point you are trying to make here. Who wins like he has with untalented teams?

No they weren't. Rose, Wagner, and Tyreke were basically the only 5 stars he got at Memphis.

When I originally commented, I wasnt trying to make a point. I was making a statement. I wasnt agreeing or disagreeing with the OP.

Recruiting is part of being a head coach and he is by far the best at it. In game coaching and developing talent, I think hes average at best.

No, you come the frick on.... His biggest strength is his recruiting.... and at Mem and Mass, he was always upping the game with recruits compared to his peers.

He has just refined it and at his peek now, but his recruiting has always been what has made him a pay check.

So, outside of Coach K who is doing well regularly in the tournament to the point that they aren't "overrated"?

This board thinks Izzo is elite but has won exactly the same number of championships. Some of y'all are too salty for your own good.

I can maybe give you in game coaching (but laughable to say he is average), but come the frick on with that developing talent thing

WHich proves my point even more. First, he signed multiple other 5 stars players, he just didnt develop any of them. Also, he signed countless other 4 star players and didn't develop any of those at Memphis either.
