what players in the HOF would lead you to believe that?

the only difference is that players vying for yearly awards are compared against one another. To get into the HOF, you must compare to current HOF'ers. Their numbers will never change. With year to year awards, they are always different.

a 60 WAR wont do anything for Pedroia if his other numbers dont compare to the likes of guys like Morgan and Sandberg or even Craig Biggio.

I don't see any way he gets in with less than about 2,300 hits-- and that's still a very steep hill to climb at this point in his career.

He's sitting at 1700 at age 33.. He's the type of player that usually tries to play till 40 which is 6 seasons.. Take a full season for his usual dl stints and he's looking at an additional 750 hits on the low end.. He'll probably be in the 2600-2700 range if he doesn't have a catastrophic injury.. He will be close but definetly in the mix for a HOF spot.

HOF voters are notorious for looking at positions relative to time period played.. He won't just be compared to the aforementioned.. He also doesn't need to be a top 5 all time 2nd baseman.. I believe He's borderline with a chance to play himself in..

If MVP and Cy Young votes are being decided by WAR and other more advanced metrics, why wouldn't those same metrics be used to compare Pedroia to Ryne Sandberg?

those arent being strictly decided by WAR.

Anyway, i mean im sure they'll look at it, but the counting stats still need to be there.

Not only is this a no, but it's a frick no. If he wasn't on the Red Sox, absolutely nobody would bring him up.

hence why I put other advanced metrics. There are voters and writers who care more about wRC+ than batting average. That would have been unthinkable 10-15 years ago.

And you have to think, Pedroia will be voted on probably like 12 years in the future...

If Pedroia plays another 6-8yrs he'll have career numbers extremely similar to Joe Morgan.... A lock HOFmer... Dustin shouldn't be scoffed at as a HOF player.

If you're a firm believer in counting stats for players to be HOFers, that would eliminate almost every active starting pitcher. There's a good chance none of them will reach 250 wins and Kershaw is the only active SP with multiple 20-win seasons. So how would you evaluate them?

Going by this and the Ortiz thread yesterday, the Red Sox might be the most powerful organization in pro sports. Both covering up a massive steroid user and allowing a pedestrian second baseman to gain national relevance and a shot at the HOF. Very impressive and obviously true.

How did the Red Sox cover it up? He tested positive, a test that was kept private by real by the MLB, what did that have to do with the Red Sox?

Why are you laughing? They are very similar players and Joe Morgan is recognized as one of the greatest 2B of all time.

Let's look at Morgan's peak, the 5 seasons averaged out in which he finished top 10 in MVP voting including winning 2. 1972-1976

Morgan -
R - 113
H - 158
2b - 29
3b - 4
HR - 22
RBI - 85
SB - 62
303/431/499/930(wow)/163 ops+

Career Total Zone fielding - (-43)
Postseason slash line (50 games) - 182/323/348/671

Pedroia during his 4 all star seasons including rookie year and MVP season -

R - 97
H - 170
2b - 41
3b - 2
HR - 16
RBI - 72
SB - 19
307/376/475/851/122 ops+

Career Total Zone fielding - (+92)
Postseason slash line (44 games) - 247/323/404/728

Idk man, Craig Biggio made it in so I'm guessing the Hall relaxed its standards a bit.
