Interesting turn of events: Al Michaels will call TNF for NBC. Not Mike Tirico

When Mike signed with the Peacock over the summer, he was under he assumption he would get the new Thursday Night package on NBC while Al gets the usual Sunday games. Well, that's will not come to fruition as the hoped because the NFL has stepped in and requested CBS and NBC to have their #1 teams to call Thursday night games. Which means there's a possibility Tirico calls 0 NFL games this season. Goes to show you the grass isn't always greener

Ugh, so we're stuck with Nantz and Simms on CBS for another year. Looks like I'm watching more college on Thursday nights on ESPN this year.

Still gonna be a shite product unless they find a way to only make teams coming off a bye play on Thursdays. It usually just centers around not enough preparation and bodies that haven't had time to recover.

There have been rumors for a while now that Michaels doesn't even want to call the Thursday games and NBC is essentially being bullied by the NFL to have him there.

Michael's is 70+ yrs old and hates travelling now more than ever. He has all but said he doesn't want to do Thursday night. Its a bad product and Michaels doesn't want to call shitty games, plus he has basically 1 off day now.
I would bet he's extremely pissed and so is Tirico. Al was lauding Tirico when they hired him and was talking about how great it would be to have him do Thursday nights.
Goodell and his cronies bullied this and the networks caved… because they essentially have zero leverage. I don't know how people can't see the NFL is essentially a modern media mafia organization or communist regime…they bully deals, control the media narrative, silence dissenters, and intimidate all that don't follow their wishes.
