If NBC was sending out a true B-team then I'd understand, but Tirico is A-List announcer who was calling Monday Night Football. Its not like NBC is trotting out Todd Hammond. The NFL shouldn't be dicks about it.
Tirico will probably eventually replace Michaels but in the meantime, he's not going to be the feature announcer for football, golf, or even college football.

Tirico was was brought in specifically to call the Thursday game and then take over on Sunday nights after Al retires… now NBC is shuffling to find a place for Tirico. He's one of the few A list announcers working today, as others have said it still baffles me why the NFL wants Michaels so bad for Thursdays when you have a Mike Tirico ready to go.
I guess they'll throw Tirico on Notre Dame games for now but that might violate Dan Hicks contract agreement, who knows, but the league has really put NBC in a tight spot on this one.

No doubt about it. I'm just saying Michaels can't prep for two games so close together. Hell, no one can.
While I rank Michaels well over Tirico, If he's good enough for Monday Night Football, he's good enough for Thursday night's usually awful games.

I agree. Its not like they are dragging Tirico over from Jefferson Pilot. He's an A-List announcer.
