Also irrelevant, because votes are already cast.

It was simply evidence of "clutch".

This is a really easy call
Altuve was brilliant all season long. Judge was not.

I'll be fine with either candidate as you can make a strong case for both. Fans saying that one was way better than the other are homers and nothing more. This is a close race.

Judge sucked for more games than Trout was hurt. The only statistic that people use for Judge that judge has a better numbers than Trout in is home runs. Trout has higher OBP slugging ops doubles.

The argument then goes to "Trout was hurt" well Trout played in 114 games. Judge played in 155 if you subtract the 55 games that he was hurting his team by being in the lineup (which is what people do when they compare Judge to Altuve) then Trout=Judge in season played

Judge was still drawing walks, getting on base, running bases, playing field.

Trout wasnt playing at all, and had he been, Angels possibly make the playoffs

And had Trout not played such a small sample size, there is a good chance that his percentage numbers could drop.

You cant discount what Judge did with these "ifs" and "whens".

Yea, dude had a cold streak. Just shows you how much better he was than Altuve when he was hitting well to finish with better numbers than him across the board

Was he even a replacement level player in that 6 weeks though?

I don't agree with the other guy's premise, but was Judge that bad and actually had negative value?

Either way, i still like to look at the season as a whole.

his OBP was in the .360 range, so my guess is he probably was

league averaged is .324 for reference

still not sure of the exact dates of the cold streak or I could say concretely

Yea, I don't know either. We know for sure he had 1 awful month in August, posting a .680 OPS. i'm guessing that's pretty close to negative or zero value.

However, I really don't think there's as big a pro-Yankees bias in the awards voting as there was decades ago, and some signs of anti-Yankees bias. When was the last time a Yankee won a major award that didn't deserve it? Serious question...

As a fan of both the Astros and Yankees, I really don't care which one wins, and would probably vote for Altuve myself just based on his consistency throughout the season.

since 1986 the Yankees have 2 MVPs and Astros 1.

ARod won both of those for the Yankees. I mean, he's only one of the 5 greatest players ever

when's the last time an Astro should have won the MVP but didnt?

last time a Yankee won it and didnt deserve?

How did Dallas Keuchel win the Cy Young 2 years ago?

Altuve has been the best player in either league and has the had the best 2b season since a prime Roberto Alomar

Jeff Bagwell in 1999 for sure.

I could argue Biggio over Barry Larkin in 1995... but really Larkin shouldn't have won either. Should have been Bonds or Piazza or Greg Maddux.

Biggio and Bagwell both had MVP-worthy seasons in 1997, but Larry Walker and the Coors effect won.

was very close, and he had an argument. But its not like he lost out to a big market team such as a Yankee. Chipper happened to have a great season for the best team in baseball

Yeah, his WAR was higher than Larkin, also had more Runs, HR, RBI, and a higher OPS... though like I said neither should have won it that season. Probably should have been Maddux who was unbelievable in 1995, but disregarding the pitcher it should have probably been Bonds, who actually finished 12th in the voting.

I fully understand he won't. I'm just going to keep banging that drum

I'd vote for judge over Altuve though

yeah, that's not true. He was given a day or two to rest and clear his head, but saying "he was benched" is pretty damn disingenuous. Judge had 16 more PA appearances than Altuve on the year, so pretty impressive for a guy who was "benched" post break.

Uh yeah, it is true. Take it up with the media if you have a problem with the terminology.

Why Yankees' Aaron Judge is being benched now for 2 games; What it means

Benched
