I'm not scorched earth like the OP, but I find this to be a reason why HSFB shouldn't be nationally televised. But since this is like the only week it's happening, I'm not getting bent out of shape over it.

This is dangerous, IMO. Not that it isn't a cesspool in some area already, but high school sports academies and national television are just going increase the amount of corruption and opportunism, a-la AAU basketball. I don't think a lot of 5-star athletes can handle the pressure and spotlight when their 18. God knows they can't when they're 16.

I feel this way about little league baseball and chick sports.

High school football isn't do bad compared to those. Kinda cool to see how other teams around the country look, especially with big time prospects.

Dear diary,

quote:

I like high school football. I used to go to games when I was in HS. I follow my high school via the newspapers and internet and friends back home and I will go watch my high school play. I will watch the state championships when they are on TV. But, you have to be kidding me if I'm going to watch two high schools that i have no connection to whatsoever play each on ESPN or Fox or whatever in the regular season. This is crazy. I have no problem with people of the town or people who have family or friends on the team watching high school football in the stands, listening to local radio or watching on cable access tv or local tv, but this is crazy. Some of you watching need to get lives. What's next? Junior High or JV football to watch a 14 year old who is rising up the recruiting charts?

Kinda goes back to my original point. What is the LLWS remembered for the last few decades?

Jackie Robinson West cheating
Mo'ne Davis sideshow while the teams that beat them are ignored
Danny Almonte scandal
Trash talking Harlem LLWS team
Taiwan birth certificate scandals

High school football doesn't need to subject itself to the same bullshite exploitation. It's already bad enough in places as it is.
