Yeah I'm not paying $65 for a golf shirt when I can get a decent one at a regular outlet store for $25. That's getting up there with LSU fishing shirts and Coaches shirts.

Who is going to pay over $70 a shirt in a dying market (golf apparel/equipment)? More courses are closing year after year. Not sure if it makes a big difference. Had Spieth been around 1997-2007 he would have made a difference. Golf is nowhere near what it once was, in terms of popularity.

Under Armour is expanding their shoe brand across the board. Their running shoes are pretty legit. Hunting boots are of decent quality. Several articles available about their push to get into the shoe market.
The spikes they put out for Jordan for the tourney sold out online instantly. I'd try out a pair, I've tried their running shoes.
I'll say that their apparel has increased in quality. I've got a bunch of their running gear and its good stuff. Its no more expensive than off the rack Nike stuff, and there are always deals to be had.

Personally I own a few pair of their running shorts and I've converted all of my undershirts to their UA Charged Heat Gear. Super comfortable and moisture-wicking.
Don't be surprised to see them muscle into golf apparel in a big way. They're EVERYWHERE right now.
The question wasn't about their overall profitability, it was about their inroads to golf.
Even with Tiger's decade+ of dominance, Nike made little gains in the golf market. In 2012 they had 7% market share. Nike and Under Armour are apparel companies, and as such they brand the shite out of their clothing so it appears that they have a larger share in the golf world than they actually do.

11 of the 14 clubs in my bag are Nike but I will admit I'm an outlier
They make good clubs, as opposed to what a lot of golfers think
Golfers as a whole are extremely brand loyal when it comes to clubs. It's definitely an uphill battle to try and enter the club/ball market

...and Nike is cheap???? The college girl these days has to have pairs of Nike shorts. These shorts cost $20-$32 a pair depending on where you get them. My daughter in her freshman year had 12 pairs and put on ten pounds. She acquired about 6 more pair for the next year and a year later she dropped the ten pounds... after she had liquidated the previous sets. Nike is making a killing on these shorts alone. I guarantee you there are $250K worth of these shorts on LSU campus alone.

Interesting. But I bet Rory will like his decision when he has a bad year of golf. Tiger is still making more than anyone in golf without playing tournaments.
