My understanding is he was the best horse of the 90s, why didn't he run the triple crown races?

Also, was he a better horse than American Pharo?

Wasn't he a grass horse until he was too old for the Triple Crown races?

My understanding has always been, he was low-grade stakes and didn't really start winning on dirt until he was 4 years old.

My favorite horse of all-time. Kind of a modern day Seabiscuit at the time who wasn't all that special early on, but started dominating at 4 & 5. Also had the perfect jockey for his demeanor, Jerry Bailey.

I almost cried when his win streak ended in the Pacific Classic. I still go back and watch Cigar's races on youtube.

man frick cigar lol

to put in perspective to non horse racing here is an accurate representation of the horses he beat in his "streak" related to NCAA football teams

LINK

A dirt horse who Bill Mott, who tired to be the smartest man in the room, thought, like he thinks every fricking horse is, is a turf horse, he sucked dog dick on the turf, the owners pleaded with him to try him on the dirt and he runs off the TV screen in an allowance race beating a bunch of shite high level claiming horses.

They point him to the Donn Handicap, a pretty important race but the best race horse in the country at the time, Holy Bull, came up injured and retired so the field was shite and he won. Mott then cherry poicked races for 2 fricking years, Oaklawn, SUFFOLK frickING DOWNS i litearlly have not watched a race at suffolk downs in 10 years. and Cigar won the mass cap, which isn't even graded, there.

TWICE LOL

because he was too much of a pussy to run against real horses he flew all the way to Dubai to run in the first Dubai World Cup. Then when he came back they started making up fricking races that he can run in becuase the streak was more important than running in graded stakes company against real horses worth a shite at the time like Awesome Again (sire of GhostZapper)

They finally find a grade 1 race so fricking soft, they feel comfortable enough to run him in it, and he gets his arse handed to him by Dare and Go who was basically a turf horse from france lol.Feeling down they give him an extra special shitty race to make up with it where all the horses in the raqce basically run to the lead and tired out and cigar passes them all in the stretch to the roar of the crowd.

somehow they still believed cigar could run worth a shite so they ran him against skip away who proceeded to beat the breaks off him in the Jockey Club Gold Cup. Then runs in the Breeders Cup at Woodbine where he of course loses.

Cigar is so fricking overrated.

This is the best race horse of the 90s

Medaglia D'Oro won 4 grade 1 races including the travers stakes and Milawkaee brew won back to back Santa Anita Handicaps the most important race West of Kentucky in America, and Candy Ride beats them without the jockey even having to use the whip drawing away.

Saw him a couple years ago at the horse park in Kentucky. He was just hanging out, rolling around in the mud like any other horse.

Seabiscuit literally traveled the country and made war admerial drop out of races until he had no choice but to race him. The Santa Anita handicap was created for the sole purpose of putting seabiscuit and war admerial in the same race

Seabucuit also ran er admerial the ground...on his own track

Cigar went to the other side of the planet to not run against awesome again and skip away

Well they certainly did avoid some of the top competition, at least they raced him 8-10 times a year, which doesn't happen with top horses. They talk about renewing interested in racing, the problem is there's more money in breeding. So they can turn the Belmont into a boat race to create a Triple Crown winner but it won't move the interest meter when that horse heads to the sidelines after 2 more races.

Bill Mott's ego alone is why he is not the best trainer of all time. Never has a trainer wasted more world class talent. Pioneeof the Nile had life is sweet a ficking breeders cup ladies classic winner running in turf races

95 classic is worst field ever.

Did you know that fro. The time she won the ladies classic making her 8 for 8 til her last race against blame a span of 12 races not one time did she ever start outside the 4 post. Yes j analized that race that much lol. She was the 5 in the last race. The odds of that happening with all the different number of post positions was 568 to 1 that she could randomly draw inside 4 12 times in a row. She cherry picked her races her posts and when she didn't get it she came up short

Streaks mean shite

One of best horses in 90's was AP indy, and it's not even close.
