uhhh what? When the Angels made the World Series, game 7 outdrew every Lakers final game ever played, which is hilarious considering how omnipresent Lakers hype is and how little people care about the Angels

Actually, I find baseball boring as frick

And I know several others that do as well. The season is too long, the games take forever, it's really slow paced. In person, I can enjoy it. On TV it's a rare occasion for me to enjoy it.

Damn northeast is skewing the statistics for CFB badly. They are easily top 2, probably number 1 in the South.

Also not surprising:

Baseball is weird. I enjoy it but I can't watch a game not involving my team from start to finish. Even playoffs its very rare I do.more than casual check in until like 7th.

I'm the same. I at least watch a little of the Braves every night if not the entire game but I can never get into other games unless I need a team to lose to help us in the playoffs. And I generally don't care as much for the playoffs after we get out.

Shows Most Popular Sports in US

this is not correct

it jsut shows the ranking of "#1" sports

for example, i'd imagine many NFL fans have CFB as their #2 sport, and i'd imagine these numbers probably rank ahead of the people who list baseball as 1/2. does that mean MLB or CFB is more popular?

i can totally see how the NBA isn't the #1 sport for many fans, but there is no way it's not more popular than racing. just look at the TV stats

this does somewhat suck, but it's just the evolution of the game.

Game 6 of the World Series (last game of the MLB season) was watched by less people than the Super Bowl, BCS Championship, NCAA Basketball Championship, and game 7 of the NBA Finals.

Honestly, if Louisiana had a MLB team I would likely watch a lot. I don't have a team to cheer for.

The Astros are closest in proximity, and I've been to several games, but I can't claim that I'm a fan of them. They are also terrible.

This is my personal list

1. College Football
2. NFL
3. NBA
4. College Basketball(Im one of those guys who dont watch all year, but come March I'm all in filling out my brackets and everything"
5. MLB(weird because Baseball was once my favorite sport to play, and i enjoy going to baseball games second only to football, but I refuse to watch on tv. Only games Ill watch is a playoff game when nothing else is on tv, and the world series, in the game that actually count
6. NHL: I watch only to see people fight

Auto Racing doesnt deserve a #, you couldnt pay me enough to watch that shite

This poll shows which sports people said were their favorite. It doesnt take into account that 35% of fans who said the NFL was their favorite might have said college football or the NBA was their second favorite, and listed MLB near the bottom.

Can't rank sports based on this because the study doesnt tell us which sport is the second favorite, third favorite, and so on.

The responses that got less than 3% weren't included in the article but were counted in the survey. Soccer got 2%.

Sure you can. You can rank them based on % of people who claimed a sport as their favorite.

Obviously there could be a more detailed study done that would more effectively rank the overall "popularity" of a sport. Or you could get even more detailed and poll people about hours spent watching each sport, which would be an even better indication.

I may think I like college football more than MLB, but if I only spend 3 hours a week watching LSU play for 12 weeks, and I spend 3+ hours a day 5 days a week for 6 months watching the Red Sox or Nationals, which sport is truly my favorite?

If you click on the link showing the detail of the survey by year going back to 1985 that someone else kindly posted, you will see soccer is indeed included. Soccer is actually less popular today than it was in 1985, going from 3% to 2%.

And shite teams get stomped 4-0

Tell that to IND/POR/HOU/etc

They're cutting down on the flopping with penalties and last i check the NFL turns a blind
eye to its refs(ask SF how that workeed out)

Same with the NFL
