Exactly and having a decent personality isn't grounds for calling someone a douche or attention whore.

There have been A LOT of stars on Hard Knocks that haven't come across as tools FWIW.

ETA:

And I don't hate the Texans or JJ Watt. Pretty indifferent about both and I love watching Watt play the game. From an unbiased standpoint, he seems like a tool. But I really don't care enough to discuss anymore.

I think part of his douchebaggery is the media's fault. By all accounts, he's a good guy. Seems like he's got an interesting personality that he's overdoing to fuel the hype that the media puts on him. He could tone it down, but I don't think his over the top antics on camera warrant AS much hate as he gets.

I'll agree somewhat to that for sure.

I mean, I'm not gonna boo the guy or make "I hate JJ Watt" t-shirts . We're just talking about an HBO episode on an internet message board

I think the fact people think he's a douche bag is 100% the medias fault. He is the biggest defensive star in the NFL and lives life with every single thing he does being covered by media and over analyzed. He doesn't request cameras to follow him, they just do because he draws viewers and gets clicks right now. If any of us were to have a camera following us all the time I guarantee we would all do or say some things that would be perceived as douche to some people.

He does do some douchey things every now and then, but he does way more good things that outweighs the douche by a lot.

The hate he gets on this board is just over the top and people just cling to small things to dislike the guy over.

ETA: I will add that a fair criticism of him is his selfie thing with Mett. I'm a Texans and LSU fan but that was just weird.

There are tons of stars that don't come off as douchey to everyone besides their own fans.

I don't think anything negative towards JJ. He actually seems like a hardworking football player that does pretty well handling the amount media and fan exposure he gets on a nonstop basis. Personality wise, he seemed like a normal guy playing bags with his family.

I'm not a Texans fan.

I'm calling bullshite all the videos of him aren't see TMZ type paparazzi videos. They are always of the ESPN:60 variety. He knows they are there and I'm sure a lot of them are set up through his agent. You can't tell me he doesn't play up that "I'm the hardest worker here" routine when he's on camera

He's got a brand and he's selling it. Hard.

Right. I can almost guarantee you he doesn't go out and set those things up himself. ESPN, FOX, NBC or any other news outlet requests him for those things...that's part of being a star. Is he supposed to say no to these things?

I'm sure they are all set up through his agent. That is the job of an agent after all.

As far as being the hardest worker thing, he really is that hard of a worker. When a reporter writes a story about it is he supposed to just deny that he works hard? Every athlete says they are the hardest workers, this is not something that only JJ does.

ETA: I know people that think he is a douche aren't going to change their mind about that. I'm just saying that a lot of the hate he gets from here is unwarranted. I don't see anything he does being much different than most other pro athletes. He just happens to have a camera around him more because of his status.

Just finished watching. I can agree with this.

Also, Pierre Garcon seems like a giant bitch. Not shocked.

You think him being the hardest working guy around is a routine?

JJ did give a strong douche vibe during the beginning of the episode. His speech to the defense was on point.
