Cosell is the producer of NFL Films and NFL Matchup and gives an unbiased analytical breakdown of QBs every week on Cowherd's show. Today he said this about Rodgers. (no link available yet)

quote:

"I cant speak for what's in his head, all I know is Aaron Rodgers is not playing very well and this started last year and they're getting further and further away from what their passing game concepts are and the execution of those concepts.

Rodgers has become a scattershot thrower, he misses a lot of throws he used to make. He doesn't execute the offense and that's what you ask quarterbacks to do.

...For years and years we talked about Jay Cutler and that he didn't execute the offense despite his great talent, Aaron Rodgers in not executing the offense...

...And now you're adding the fact that he's a little too scattershot and he's missing routine throws. You have a quarterback who the tape tells you this. This is not an interpretation, this is what the tape says...he's not playing very well right now."

He has been awesome, but people were a little premature jumping on the GOAT bandwagon and have seemed to be a little tardy jumping off.

he's been struggling to be 'elite' since 2015. he had a 7 year span where his play was elite though, so you need to start fixing the problems for him, one of which has been protection. I've watched him, but his OL hasn't been this pathetic.

I think everyone realizes he is playing poorly. It won't last.

He bails from the pocket too soon at times, he did that a lot in the vikings game,no pressure but he started running around and destroyed the play

I agree in part with the article but I Lol'd at this comparison.

We'll see what Rodgers can do going forward. His weapons have been lacking since last year, in part due to injury.

Not passing the blame, but this might be the worst Packers receiving corps in a couple of decades. There is no reliable target.

Nelson is coming off a major injury.
Cobb is more of a utility player/gamechanger than a true #1 receiver.
Adams is still unreliable.
Cook has been in decline since his best year (2011) for all but one season.
Lacy is a below average receiver out the backfield.
Starks is better than Lacy but who isn't.

I doubt that it's coincidence that Rodgers' "decline" is simultaneous with Nelson's injury and when James Jones stopped playing out his arse the first month of so of 2015.

An underrated part of this is that Mike McCarthy is a shitty fricking coach that's hidden behind Rodgers for years now

their offense is basically "make it happen Aaron". And McCarthy is always giving and taking away play calling to some it seems, which should never be an issue with their talent they have. Cherry on top is he is awful at clock management.

Seems like every time this comes up, Rodgers goes out and throws five or six touchdowns the next game.

He made Aaron Brooks a decent QB, so he deserves a little credit

I've got a feeling this will be like Brady's 2013-early 2014 "decline"

I don't know if it was more him or Haslett, but they also broke him when they took away his ability to improvise and turned him into a traditional pocket QB. If that was what they wanted, I wish they would have went with Delhomme after 2002.

Holy shite are Packers fans spoiled.

31 TDs to 8 INTs is considered Rodgers "down year". Think about that.

Last week, he missed open receivers. That group is good enough, but he wasn't playing well enough.

That's not what it's about. His last 3 full NFL seasons, he averaged a little over 40 TDs, and 8 matches his high INT total during that period.

More than possibly any other NFL player, his team's destiny lies in his hands. When he's elite, they're competing for Super Bowls. When he's just excellent, they're Minnesota's bitch and a Wild Card exit.

I think he's gotten skittish because McCarthy has been running a pretty predictable offense.

Cosell said this 2 weeks ago. He said everybody knows exactly what Green Bay is going to do on every offensive plays because McCarthy is running the same plays everybody's seen for 30yrs over and over. They basically haven't evolved on offense like a NE has.

I agree that some of his passes were atrocious Sunday night. But even last year, two of his top three receivers (Adams and Jones) had 193 targets but caught 100 passes. That's God freaking awful.
