Shannon Brown's 360 statue of liberty dunk in the 03 high school dunk contest is still my fave dunk contest dunk of all time. That dunk is not easy at all.

He tried it in 2010 dunk contest and missed

It's definitely not easy, but I guess I don't see it as high as you or some other people do

Still a legit dunk tho

what was the format? I keep seeing that the format sucked, what was different about it?

what was the format?

east v. west

first there was a 90 second "freestyle" round where the 3 from each team fricked off

then there was a direct competition with one east guy v. one west guy...3 judges vote. and the team gets a "win"

east won 3-0 and apparently since they swept, there was a part of the contest we missed?

Yep. In high school we could always lower the goal and replicate the dunks in the contest. NO ONE could do that one. It's infinitely harder than you think it is. The commentators even talk about how much harder it is than the judges graded it. That's why the crowd booed them. Put a goal on 8ft and try to do that dunk.

before the charade of groupthink emerges, i'll throw out some historical dunks from when the dunk contest was supposedly better

It's always funny when you see young people say that stuff too as if they really appreciated the 90's dunk contests when they were 5 or 6

Iguodala was straight up robbed. Nate Robinson's "i'm short so I make simple dunks look difficult" sctick ruined the dunk contest for a few years for me.

that mclemore dunk was a lot like the fred jones dunk, just straight up and not off to the side

Yeahthey were both bad alleys. But the Fred Jones one was better because like you said it was off to the side and thus more aesthetic. Do you have that gif?

I've only seen the Tony Mitchell stuff, but it looks like it was the traditional format

I thought Rashad James was better. Guy is 6'1 at best.
LINK
He jumped off two feet from inside the dotted line, had his right foot on the free throw line and windmilled it from there. Color me impressed.

That dunk contest was much better than the NBA whatever you want to call it not a dunk contest.

Out of all the gifs posted, I'm still drawn to and amazed at Jordan's the most. The length of time he stays in the air is just retarded.
