If a current country artist were to do it, I am afraid it would be one of the more recent pop-country acts, because the thought would be that would drive viewership.

Does Taylor Swift count as a country artist? I imagine she's a big enough star to do a halftime show.

Garth Brooks is another reason the "mute" button is such a valuable tool on the television.

Maroon Five will be the choice if NBC game and they can roll Blake Shelton out to pimp the tv show.

ETA:

Scratch that idea since it is a Fox game.

Question:

Are middle aged to older aged white people likely to go out and spend money on music or products based on what they see in the Super Bowl halftime show?

What about young people of any race? What about the black audience of the NFL?

Who really spends the most money on products advertised through commercials?

I think the answer to these questions will show why Garth Brooks will never play the halftime show. Also why pop/hip hop artists will always have a big role in the show.

It's a damn shame AC/DC has never done a Super Bowl Halftime Show

Their setlist could be:
THUNDERSTRUCK
YOU SHOOK ME ALL NIGHT LONG
FOR THOSE ABOUT TO ROCK

Three arena anthems. Appeals to all demos, especially if Angus moons the crowd and acts like a banshee as usual, can get Dave Grohl or one or two of the new rockers to make cameo appearances and jam.

Back to the OP, saw Garth a lot in the 90's, have seen him three different cities since he's resumed touring over the last year. The guy hasn't lost a step. Still the best country performer all-around as far as everybody singing every word to every song, getting ripped and having a blast. He's basically the country version of Springsteen. But he missed his mark on the Super Bowl. He was offered the Georgia Dome Super Bowl gig and turned it down because he didn't want to share with another artist or two.

I want to see (in no particular order)

AC/DC
Reunited Led Zeppelin (A one off performance with Jason Bonham on drums)
Reunited full G-n-R
Metallica
Taylor Swift (Don't laugh. She fine.)
