Oakland Raiders lost to Terry Bradshaw's Steelers in AFC champ game on the "Immaculate Reception", a ball that was struck in the air by the defending Raider Jack Tatum and flew 10 or 15 yards back to the Steeler FB who took it to the house for the win.

I was living with a woman from Pittsburgh too. We watched it together.
Very different feelings.

Ugh.

PS Raiders won a couple in that era.

84 Dolphins got blown out in their SB
68 Colts totally shat the bed

2015 Panthers didnt get rolled like the 84 phins did but when you lose by 2 scores or more on the big stage i think that eliminates you from consideration barring some sort of weird circumstances

Montana, who was named the Super Bowl MVP, completed 24 of 35 passes for a Super Bowl-record 331 yards and three touchdowns. He also broke the Super Bowl record for most rushing yards gained by a quarterback with his 5 rushes for 59 yards and 1 rushing touchdown.

Actually that was not the AFC title game... it was a divisional round game in 1972. The Steelers then lost to the Dolphins in the AFC title game that year.

2011 Saints

ETA: I guess I'll throw some stats in to support the case.

-The offense rewrote the NFL record book at the time (breaking 40+ offensive team/individual records)
-13-3 (rode an 8 game winning streak into the playoffs, outscoring opponents 36-19)
-Had 6 games where they scored over 40 points.
-Average scoring margin on the season was 34-21
-Put up 62 by accident against the Colts and Curtis Painter on Sunday Night
-13 games of 400+ yards of offense; 6 games of 500+

They were a few Greg Williams ill-timed blitz calls away from playing the Giants in the Superdome for the NFC Championship game.

The offense was absolutely humming, and seemingly the only thing that kept this team from taking it all was a god damn Alex Smith bootleg. Outside of that, I firmly believe nobody else was going to slow them.

I don't let myself get too bothered by sports stuff anymore, but how that season ended still grinds my gears.

The 1923 Canton Bulldogs were undefeated, allowing 19 points all season (12 games).

Niners were stout too, Saints fans forget that.

Any of those first 3 Harbaugh teams could be on this list

Very talented offense that caught lightning in a bottle, BUT they went 11-5. I can't put an 11-5 team as one of the best to not win a Super Bowl.

Teams led by Kaep and Alex Smith shouldn't be on the "best teams to never win a SB" list.

01 Rams are my vote. Aside from the offense which is in the discussion for GOAT NFL offense, they were 3rd in total defense that year. They outscored their opponents 503-273

1998 Vikings. That team was fricking amazing. 2011 Green Bay was incredible too.
