The University of Memphis, once considered a viable Big 12 expansion candidate in part because of its backing by FedEx, is not among the schools being considered by the conference, sources told ESPN.
Memphis was among several schools that expressed interest in joining the league and had conducted a video conference with Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby in the past two weeks, sources said.
However, the Tigers did not make the latest cut when the league trimmed its group of potential candidates by one-third, leaving 11 schools still alive in the Big 12's expansion sweepstakes.
Those 11 schools are Air Force, BYU, UCF, Cincinnati, UConn, Colorado State, Houston, Rice, South Florida, SMU and Tulane. The list does not include Temple, which had been previously reported by ESPN as still being in the mix.

CSU and Houston are the only ones that would really fit, IMO.

there goes one of their best options... kids, this is why you don't try TOO hard

they must not have been as willing as some of the other schools to take a smaller cut of the TV money.
As much as I don't want them to be left behind there is no way in hell SMU, Rice, Tulane, Air Force, South Florida, and UCF are better options long term.

The way everyone was talking, they were IN.
Glad to see Tulane hanging around.

I think it comes down to UCF, BYU, and CSU. They don't need Houston.

Looks like this is a contest to see who will be most eager to be a seat filler with barely a seat at the table.
The longer this drags on, the better Tulane's chances will look. Say what you want about Tulane, but they'll be the least likely to bitch about UT 24/7.

Doesn't BYU already have their own tv station? How would that factor in?
UCF- huge university with a lot of potential in a big market like Orlando.
USF- same as UCF just in Tampa. When comparing the 2 I gave UCF the nod simply because their athletics have out performed USF.
Tulane- the only reason I bet they are even being considered is because the hot bed of talent in Nola and La.

Stop throwing SMU into the conversation. You and I both know that the Ponies are not going to the Big XII. They don't have the sports. But if the Big XII for some stupid illogical reason takes them, there's the excuse for not equal shares.

I'm not throwing them in, the Big 12 is.
They are still on the prospective list as of right now.

Also, could it be that the Big 12 has a long-shot half-baked idea of adding four schools, three of which are from Texas (Rice, SMU, UH), so they can have an all-Texas division and an automatic Texas team in the B12CG?

No because Houston would already accepted any invite in. The Big XII played them like a fiddle.

I wonder if the have-nots in the Big 12 are doing what they can to strong arm the process as such that if they're to expand, there must be at least one Texas school added?

They do not want another Texas school most likely. There are no have-not in the Big XII except West Virginia.
As much as we make fun of Tech, they got some major money. Baylor does also.
