I graduated from Rosepine. Haven't heard from anyone on how that game went last night, but I knew a couple of weeks ago from talking to one of my friends that teaches there that the basketball team wasn't good at all. They seriously need to do something with the system.

Play the whole game on both sides. It is far more insulting to hold back and take it easy

I get that, but to get to 134 points in a 32 minute game, you just about have to be pressing the whole time. I'm not suggesting they take the air out of the ball....but how about a few more half- court sets? You might need those if you end up in a close game and need to bleed clock.

if you don't want a team to score 134 on you, then do something about it

I think Madison Prep could have shown a little restraint at some point and maybe worked on their half-court game or something...what are you proving by putting 134 on the board against a team that was put in a spot they shouldn't have been in in the first place?

Normally I would agree with you. There is no point in running it up on inferior competition, but in this instance I won't be so quick to judge.

Rosepine is really bad and Madison Prep is really, really good. I'm sure they could have scored 200 if the coach really wanted to. I have watched some of these Cenla teams put out 6th and 7th graders as starters. I don't know what the make up of Rosepine's team is, but a 7-22 team shouldn't be in the playoffs in 2A.

I would like to know what the score at half time was and when did Coach Jones pull out his starters and insert his bench. Even still, chances are that Madison Prep's 11-15 is light years ahead of anything Rosepine could put out there.

We are no longer in the regular season, it's the playoffs and Coach Jones has a right to let his kids go full speed and to make sure all of his players are all in. Plenty of schools have opted out of the playoffs before. Rosepine wanted the chance, so live with the results.

Not if you are just that much better than the other team. I'd imagine that going against Rosepine was just like playing against the freshman team at practice.

I think Madison Prep has about 4 state titles in a row. I think they will be okay.

There is no reason for a 7-22 team in the playoffs.....

A team should have to win 40 percent of their games to be in the playoffs. I would say 50 percent but some teams that have players in the football playoffs start slowly until they get their basketball legs under them.

The power points work. Use that as is to select the teams and then eliminate any team with less than 40 percent wins. The top teams would get a first round bye.

You can go to federal PMITA prison for point-shaving.

Unlike Evangel and John Curtis, those two schools are afraid to lose.

One of these is not like the other. One played 5A while the other hid out in 4A claiming their other sports couldn't compete in 5A despite the fact that they were winning championships in those sports in 4A.

I'd go with 33 percent... that's 10 wins in 30 games... just want to eliminate the obvious teams that shouldn't be there. 10 wins means you at least have some idea on how to play basketball

Here is an article that kind of explains it.

The Advocate

quote:

The change took away open enrollment within a parish and placed schools back in traditional attendance zones. Under the LHSAA rule for magnet components, schools that draw at least 25 percent of their enrollment from outside a traditional attendance zone are deemed select. Based on that rule change, Scotlandville and McKinley were deemed select for 2016-17. The situation with Madison Prep revolves around enrollment policies. Some charter schools limit enrollment based on admission standards or other criteria. Madison Prep was deemed to have open enrollment, a point that the school’s rapid growth supports. Madison Prep athletic director/boys basketball coach Jeff Jones said he has fielded questions from several local/New Orleans area private schools since the LHSAA released the list to schools last week. “I know some people don’t like it, but the truth is we’ve always been nonselect, going back to six or seven years ago when we started with 86 kids,” Jones said. “We can’t turn students away if we have places for them. We’re up to about 520 students this year.”

The girls bracket is just as bad. They've already had a couple of big blow outs like this.

I think Calvary sent their 8th grade team because they didn't realize they made the playoffs and the varsity already had priors

The only team with a chance in 2A is Rayville.

Madison Prep is the second best team in the state behind Scotlandville.

doesn't mean they're not scouting kids they want and encouraging them to apply...

Wasn't there a team that had zero or one win get in this year?
