I'm still favoriting Archer over Cole

Another target, if he can keep it up, would be Jason Vargas. Dude is really pitching well so far, he's a FA at the end of the season, and KC is not going to be in the running.

I'd be remiss if I didn't mention that, back in 2005, our first and only World Series run, we started 15-30.
Now, in 2017, our ballclub is 30-15.
Meaningful September baseball...here we come.
Go Stros!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wouldn't necessarily say less talent... but he has to be healthy so that's a definite concern.
Dude did finish 3rd in the CY race two seasons ago at age 25, and he won 14 games with an ERA just over 3 the season before, so the talent and ability is there. He also pitched over 200 innings in both 2014 and 2015.
Just have to see how he's pitching and determine if that's the guy you're getting or the one that missed 10ish starts in 2016 and struggled with the HR ball. That's on the scouting department.
This. Pre-injury Gray was a 200-inning, elite ground ball rate with a low HR/FB rate kinda guy. Despite the lower K/9 rate, guys just weren't getting very hard contact against him. He also didn't walk very many people. That version of Gray would play well in our rotation.
Post injury Gray still has the good ground ball rate going for him which fits pitching in MMP. He also still has a solid walk rate so far this season. His issue is he has just been prone to the long ball (which you obviously dont want with the short porch in MMP). Think he is near 20% HR/Fly Ball rate right now which is just stupid. Pre injury he sat around 9% HR/FB which is excellent. For reference, Dallas Keuchel usually sits around 13%. You could probably give gray a slight regression in that pre injury HR/FB ratio if you take him out of Oakland.
Point is if he rebounds over the next few months before the deadline and looks close to pre injury form, I'd be OK with trading for him.
One guy I see get mentioned here is Estrada - I'd be scared shitless if the Stros traded for him. He has one of the worst fly ball rates in the league. Although it is usually weak fly balls, weak fly balls to left field in MMP can still land in the boxes.

Well have plenty of time to see who is available and who is throwing well. All indications is lunhow will wait this out barring a major injury

Pretty sure Greinke has a no-trade clause. And he has stated repeatedly that he does NOT want to play in NY, Boston, or Chicago.

I think Gray will show what he's worth in the next six weeks. As in, we'll know for sure whether he fits us as a potential solution or not. If he's healthy, he has the stuff and understanding of how to pitch that will shine.

Well that's not ideal. Considering Correa had 2 off days in a row less than a week ago.
Posted on 5/23/17 at 3:17 pm to Lsuhoohoo
Exactly. He must have an ongoing issue with something.

Correa out with an illness. Possibly available to hit if needed.

Maybe he finally broke up with the beauty queen and he's just a bit hung over from chasing tail last night.
I'm telling you, that chick is bad for his game.

Preach brother. I've been saying since the start of the season. Probably has him wearing garters and breathing through his eyelids.
