Just lost the ice gators so no. Lafayette doesn't really support sports teams well. Except Alabama football.

This is what happened with the Brass. Once the city landed the Hornets, the Brass were over. :(
SMG or whoever was managing the arena didn't want to hire a third shift of workers to pick up and put down the basketball court. Brass had to leave.

Marketed right, with a good price point, yes it could succeed. Before moving to the arena, the Brass routinely sold out the Municipal Auditorium which held 5,010 spectators. And let me tell you, it was LOUD in there, the loge seats hung right out over the benches and penalty boxes, fans could abuse players all night long.

The attendance was close to that after the move, but in an 18,000 seat arena , those 5,010 +/- souls were spread all over the place. The arena is comfortable, easy to move around, get concessions. The Auditorium was fun, intimidating and a great place for hockey.

I don't think UNO is big enough to put in a rink.

I think it could. It's a fun sport and especially with the minor league deals it would be easier on the middle class.

We do need a mid size arena somewhere in this area that can host hockey, indoor football, etc.

Maybe Covington would be a good place for it

Unless the UNO arena were big enough for a hockey rink, I think it would be too much of a PITA to work around the Smoothie King Center's scheduling and having to swap an ice hockey rink, basketball court, and concert stages so often for a hockey team that'll barely be filling 1/3 of the SKC's seats.

Baton Rouge would support a hockey team better than Nola, currently, IMO.

lol I played on the icegators and the attendance sucked. Not to mention no one gave a shite about hockey and only went for the fights.

What do you base that on?

With Nola's tourist population it seems like this could potentially work if marketed correctly and if the location was right

Brass games were awesome and always packed ... not that municipal was the dome. But they had a good run.

The Municipal Auditorium oozed atmosphere inside and out. To get to the dressing rooms, the players had to walk through the main concourse and entryway. Fans were right there just behind barricades to cheer the Brass and jeer the opponents.

The main concession stand was right there, as well. The visitors' dressing room was only big enough for lockers and benches to change. To meet and make adjustments/coaching, they had a chalk board in the hall, which was only partitioned by a curtain! Brass fans would get loud and rowdy in line for concessions to disrupt the visiting team!

Anybody remember that guy Oreo? He was one of the most obnoxious, abusive, EFFECTIVE fans I've ever seen. LMAO

I don't think New Orleans gives a shite about minor league sports. Their attendance for their AAA baseball team is perennially horrible. I seriously doubt a minor league hockey team would do any better.

My memory may be off, but I seem to remember an epic playoff game (or maybe just a game?) against the IceGators where the Brass came back down from 3-0 to win. Martin Villeneuve was the goalie for us. Like you said, the place was rocking. I always sat next to the other team's bench when I went so we got the best of it.
