I don't remember the Brass ever beating the Ice Gators in a clutch game. We played well against them, pretty often with a few regular season wins. But they were always better, or it seemed that way, when it mattered.

I remember Villeneuve, well, though. One year, maybe the last one in the Auditorium, we played a New Year's Eve game, still have the jersey. Then the Krewe of Brass (booster club) had a party until about 3:00 a.m. in one of the banquet rooms in the Auditorium. Villeneuve went from table-to-table finishing off people's half-finished bottles of champagne.

True. The Zephyrs were screwed when Houston pulled their AAA affiliation to Nolan Ryan's new Round Rock franchise. New Orleanians who followed the Astros lost interest, and that was that.

Worst thing that ever happened. If the organization could somehow get back with Houston, it would improve since many watch the Astros on TV here.

I have AT&T, and those channels are so far up I rarely watch them. There is a FSHou or more than one, though.

I miss HSE.

according to Wikipedia, we beat them in the second round of they playoffs in 98-99 season (which must be what I remember) before falling short against those bastards the Pee Dee Pride in the next round.

that's awesome I was sad to see Villeneuve did not in fact make it to the NHL.

Thanks for the knowledge, makes me feel better.

M.H. WAS a good 'keeper. He started by going to tables when people would get up to go dance, drinking right out of the bottles, but he was trying to sneak around doing it. Once people saw him, they all started inviting him to their tables and handing him bottles.

When they were in the Municipal Auditorium, our group always sat on the ground level off the right shoulder of the keeper on the end where the visiting team's keeper would play 2 of the 3 periods. The Kingfish goalie Veisor especially hated hearing the crowd chanting "frosty" or "whopper" at him when he had already given up 5 or 6 goals.

No one cares about hockey in New Orleans.

Do you remember the New Orleans Brass?

Me neither.

Your loss, not ours. Was a very enjoyable three or four years of hockey in New Orleans. Lots of fun.
