I actually think that a lot of baseball fans around the country don't realize how good Larry Wayne really was.
Musial, Ruth, Williams, Gehrig and Chipper Jones are the only players in Major League history to record at least 2,500 hits, 1,500 walks, 1,500 runs, 500 doubles, 450 home runs and 1,500 RBIs while hitting .300 with a .400 on-base percentage and .500 slugging percentage. He also hit 300 from both sides of the plate. That is a pretty impressive list to be included on.

We all know how big of a douche he was off the field but He was amazing on it. Hit third for the most consitent team in baseball his entire career. I think he's a top 3 third baseman and switch hitter of all time.

This picture gets me every time.

And yes Chipper was very good. I don't think anybody that actually follows baseball underrates him.

He is ugly, he cheated on his wife, and he seems to have the IQ of a gas lamp.

I did used to like when Skip Caray would say "and there's a chopper to Chipper"

One of my favorites growing up. He'll be up for HOF voting soon. I think it's this year

Underrated? Every Barvetard has been gargling his sack for almost 30 years.

Why do you think that? Because ESPN and MLB network don't jerk him off like all the Barves fans on here?

What are his exact stats? Because Chipper has nearly 500 home runs, 2600 hits and his BA is .304 from both sides

Or Eddie Murray?

Or Pete Rose?

Or Reggie Smith?

Mantle has 536 HRs, his average was a shade below .300.

I would put Rose & Murray ahead of Chipper as well.

You can make a strong case for either Chipper or Eddie Murray as the second best switch hitter of all time.

Both were better hitters than Rose.

Reggie Smith?!?

OK, possible overreach, but he was pretty damn good.

#1 pick overall, should have been rookie of the year, career .300 hitter....I don't see how he was ever underrated? Chipper also did all of this after a torn ACL he suffered in the offseason of '94. I think he's been rated just about right forever.

Okay, back to the topic at hand. I think you can definitely make a case he is underrated as an all-time. He's a borderline top 5 3B of all-time. I personally have him at six only behind Schmidt, Brett, Mathews, Brooks and Boggs. Chipper's fifth all-time in total WAR among 3B. His career 141 OPS+ is better than every 3B in the HOF not named Schmidt and Mathews. That being said, Chipper received a ton of attention throughout his playing career. He played for a team who was on broadcast cable every week. He was arguably the biggest sports idol in the southeast and got his own farewell tour during his final season. It seemed like he got plenty of appreciation and deservedly so.
