OK, possible overreach, but he was pretty damn good.

Yeah, only 100+ fewer homeruns, 15+ points lower batting average, 40+ points lower OBP, 500+ fewer hits. I'd say it's a definite overreach.

And you know a player who really is underrated? Jeff Bagwell. He was the best all-around 1B to ever play the game. He was an excellent baserunner and stole 30 bases in a season two times. He was a very good fielder. He hit for power in a park that was virtually impossible to hit for power (Astrodome). His career batting average was close to .300. He had a great eye at the plate drawing over 100 walks for seven consecutive years. He had a good throwing arm for a 1B leading the league in assists for a 1B five times. No other 1B excelled at every aspect of the game like Jeff Bagwell did.

Bags was great and I wish we could have seen how the 1994 ended up for him through a full season,But Lou Gehrig is the best 1st baseman of all-time and its not that close......

Now this, I can support. Chipper is rated right where he belongs. Bagwell is underrated because he has been linked to steroids even though nothing has ever been proved he was using, although he probably was.

He deserves to be in the HOF, but is being held out because of the steroid era.

Fantastic player.

100% Hall of Famer.

Utterly uncoachable. Would only listen to Daddy.

FIFY.

The hilarious thing is, the second one he cheated on was who he was cheating with when he was cheating on his first one.

Poetic justice.

I agree that Bagwell probably did roids. However, there has never been proof that he did. I think it's unfair to hold him or anyone out of the HOF based on assumption.

A small part of me also believes him when he denies it. It could just be the homer in me, but this link is him talking about it. LINK

He loved Bobby like a dad. Didn't he say he'd retire when Bobby retired?

Jeff Bagwell young:

Jeff Bagwell during the Steroids Era:

Jeff Bagwell now:

Yeah, the question may remain, but I think the answer is loud and clear.

He's the 2nd best switch hitter ever, IMO.

I didn't say managed.

I said COACHED.

The reason he wasn't and never could be a leader in that Brave's clubhouse was because he and his Dad were his "coaches". He was given free reign to ignore "coaching" from anyone else.

Hard to be the "leader" when your a lone wolf.

His 1999 season is possibly the best ever by a 3rd baseman. I also remember him moving to left field for a few years so that scrub Vinny Castilla could play.

He's HOF eligible for the 2018 class. Planning on making the trip to Cooperstown and do Niagra Falls when it happens. Thome, my dad's favorite player, should be going in the same year too.

I personally have him at six only behind Schmidt, Brett, Mathews, Brooks and Boggs.

I would take Chipper over Boggs. He just brought more overall to the table in a direct comparison, although both were great.
