Nearly a decade out of ncaaf coaching and he comes back and builds ucla into a 10 win program

That guy is a top 10 HC in college football.

Period.

There was only a four or five year gap between Oregon and UCLA. This is his fifth season at UCLA.

Felt like he got somewhat of a raw deal in San Fran, but his first year in Philly was pretty crazy. NFL defenses must've just figured him out

People in general have a weird memory of his time in the NFL. He won 10 games in his first and 2nd years in Philly. A 6 win season gets him fired and he takes over a SF team that was a total shitshow with or without him

He didnt set the world on fire but its not it was a total failure that people seem to paint it

I think it was mostly Chip's shitty personnel moves that people had a problem with. He got rid of Shady to pay DeMarco Murray $40 million and let go of DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin to replace them with the likes of Jordan Matthews and Riley Cooper. The Eagles are a great organization so Chip was given all the tools to succeed unlike most college coaches who make the jump to the NFL and he squandered it.

It is remarkably easy to root against them though.

Saints went up north and knocked that arse out in the wild card round.

Chip was near the top of the hot seat in September. That aged well.

He’s done a really good job with DTR who was terrible earlier in his career.

He also has Bill O'Brien Syndrome, where he had such a huge ego he thought he was a personnel genius and made some stupid arse moves.

Sure, if you leave out the alienated Shady Mccoy and had everyone repeat the mantra "he's a racist" until he was chased with metaphorical torches out of the NFL. If you omit that part, yeah, it went great.

Also a lot of what seemed to get people on his arse was a few of his defensive players being mad the offense ran a bit of HUNH and some old head commentators who were angry they had to learn a new style offense. It very much felt like when Gary Danielson would complain that they didn't have enough time to run replays when A&M first joined the SEC. McCoy being a huge arse baby and dropping the race card ove being traded didn't help things either.

There were also battles behind the scenes between Chip, the GM Howie Roseman, and owner Jeffrey Lurie.

I think Lurie is a good owner, and Roseman is a good GM, but that organization has had some weird power struggles between them and multiple head coaches.

Doug Pederson was the latest.

I wish people would elaborate what the “it” actually is instead of leaving the rest of us to guess what it is.

He must really be great to build a 10 win program without winning 10 games
