Don't understand why the baseball crowd is clinging to their "unwritten rules".

He's right. In pretty sure Cardinal fans still hate Pedro Strop for pumping his fist after a 3rd out strikeout in the playoffs.

So many broken unwritten rules though.

This could have been a much better thread if you didn't title it like a bitch looking for a fight.

Harper is absolutely 100% correct. So many idiots think you deserve a 95 mph heater thrown at your face because you flipped your bat after a homerun, it's idiotic. His point about Fernandez is great.

His comments appear to be very popular on twitter. To the point I'm surprised him stating the obvious is garnering so much praise?

Baseball seems to have isolated itself from the mainstream and I think they're core fans would like to keep it that way. For them it provides a comforting, familiar escape from the showboating and gloating of players like Steph and Cam. It's become the haven of the, "do it the right way" crowd.

I changed it. But I'll admit the Cam mention was the only thing that made me take notice.

I've heard mention of the Harper/Cam comparison but didn't take them seriously. Thought it was just media stirring the pot.

Harper is right and that's what makes WBC baseball so fun to watch. Baseball does need more flair imo.

I like baseball the way it is. I don't need to see dancing and show boating like in football.

I agree with him to a degree.

But baseball is a bit different from football and basketball. It's almost impossible to be a one man show. Your best batter might have 5 PAs/game and your best pitcher is throwing every 5 games. There's just not a lot of wiggle room for someone to step outside of the structure

Or the ridiculous nature of retaliation. Like when the dbags threw at mccutchen because a fast ball got away the night before. That kind of shite is absurd. But that was just kirk gibson being the same dick he's always been.

If you don't like jose bautista's bat flip, then you're dead inside.

Which is fine but I don't understand the outrage over things like bat flips? I thought this was an all time sports photo.

It's not something happening every game or HR but when it's done there shouldn't be such grandstanding and hand wringing about the state of the game

That's why we need flashy catchers. Despite my undying hate for yadi molina, it's hard to argue that that guy isn't somewhat of a showman. Whether it's being turned around arguing with the ump while the ball is live and the go ahead run is scoring or simple popping up with all the excitement of a child when framing a 3rd strike on the corner. Ironically he does it for a fanbase that hates fun.

I'm not a fan of showboating. I think players should handle themselves with class. However, I loathe those players that think it's their job to personally teach players on the other team how to act (I'm looking at you Brian McCann). If you don't want a guy admiring his home run, don't serve it up.

Talk with your teammates all you want about how to play the game, but if they aren't on your team it's not your place to stand in front of home plate and act like a baby-back bitch.

We already see lots of bat flips and stare downs. I think it's the nature of the game that keeps celebrations in check more than fear of retaliation.

Most people aren't as likely to dance or rip their shirts Superman style after a success when the best of them fail 70% of the time.

I love baseball and love seeing energy and excitement from players, but I don't want to see the Ickey Shuffle after homeruns.
