What are Ben's numbers? Feels to me like it would be a similar career.
I disagree with OP that Brees is that high, but given OP's scenario, Eli feels like Andy Murray for comparison. How good would Murray be if not for playing in the era of maybe 3 of the top 5 ever?

I think Ben, Romo, and Eli are in.
Rivers and Warner out. Warner due to length and Rivers due to where he played, same reason Romo is in.
I think a lot of people will see Matthew Stafford and Phillip Rivers in same light. Good players, not playing well always when needed, their team did not help them, and not on a high profile team.

Wilson is extremely efficient.
He keeps up at a pace like this and sustains it for years we will be discussing him and where he ranks in the greatest ever list.
I think he's a tremendous player, personally.

I like Wilson a lot also. I think he gets a bad rap on this board because of who he plays for, not what he does.

Looks like 2 all time greats to me.

I'm not disagreeing that he's an all-time great, I'm disagreeing that he is a top 3 ever QB.
Posted on 12/21/15 at 12:08 pm to Jcorye1
I'd have him around 9-12, so I agree.

Fwiw, Peyton also has lower QB rating than Brady in both dome and indoors.

Agreed!

He's already 8 or 9th in the history of the NFL for touchdown passes.
When he retires, he's going to be Top 5 in every quarterback statistic.
All of this is true

Are the statistics irrelevant? Is it the era he's playing in?
It is certainly the era to some extent. The statistics should be measured against his peers rather than different eras with different rules and offensive styles.
Winning two Super Bowls is probably his biggest trump card. That combined with durability.

Brees is number 1. Yeah, he gets his stats in a dome, but it's a dome built on top of indian burial ground so it's not really an advantage. Also, Brees has had to deal with a drug addict as his head coach for most of his career.

Remember that Brees has more warm weather among his outdoor games than Brady, but he never gets to throw against the Saints D unlike other QBs

Better career yards per attempt, td/int ratio, and passer rating than Brees.

would you take him over Brees?
Posted on 12/21/15 at 3:53 pm to tigerclaws15
For a career no. If Romo was healthy today and playing at the level he played last year, sure. Brees has one maybe 2 seasons at the level Romo played last year and they were a lonnnnng time ago.

Really? Brees has had only one year as good as romo? The guy with more 5000 yard seasons than anyone in history? The guy who has had a lot less weapons than romo? The guy who will be a first ballot hall of famer versus a guy who will never get in?

5000 yard season is a product of how many times Brees threw the ball that's why we prefer yards per attempt over total yards.
Romo yards per attempt last season 8.5
Brees only has one season with an 8.5 YPA
Romo rating last year 113.2
Brees best ever 110.6
Romo TD/INT ratio last year 34/9 -- 3.78
Cursory glance tells me that Brees best ever wasn't that good.
So when Romo posts numbers in one season that Brees doesn't ever post or post once in his whole career it's safe to say that Romo's last season was as good as any Brees season but 1 or 2.

Brees also never had the leading rusher in the NFL on his team. Its a lot easier to be efficient as a QB when you have the best running game in the league
