I disagree with the mention of Bobby Knight. His ending at Indiana was ugly thanks to Myles Brand. But then he took Texas Tech to multiple tournaments including a Sweet 16. He then proceeded to slide like many coaches do at the end of their tenure.

Had he turned around Texas, or Oklahoma, or a school with a bigger name than Tech, you would have heard more about it.

Jason Rabedeaux.

Went from a Wazzu and Oklahoma assistant to UTEP head coach where he won a WAC COTY.

Ended up dying while coaching in Vietnam.

People forget how Turner Gill was once propped by the media as "the next big thing"

Paul Evans. Coached at Navy and Pitt, won over 400 games, and then couldn't get hired anywhere.

First that came to mind for me is Charlie Weis. Couldn't even make it at Kansas

ETA Changed Weiss to Weis.

Is Bobby Petrino mentioned?

Dude literally fell off his motorcycle.

Sure we couldn't ever beat Bama but his teams were frickin' scary good for Arkansas. 5x what Bret has put on the field when the league was even tougher back then IMO.

Who was the bball coach at Kent State, got them to sweet 16 at least, that everyone wanted? I think he went to Arkansas then got fired and wound up at South Florida.

Gotta throw Steve Sarkisian's name in here too. Alot of people, in the pre season, had that team going to the playoffs. Drank his way out of one of the top jobs in college football.
