In what several sources around the Big East described as a pivotal meeting, Big East presidents and athletic directors will meet tomorrow in Philadelphia to discuss probable expansion plans, The Post has learned.

The regularly-scheduled meeting of the presidents and athletic directors figures to be intense as the BCS-football playing members of the league intend on pressing their agenda to add teams to the eight-team football conference.

"The goal is to get the presidents' blessing to seriously pursue teams," said one Big East athletic director. "I don't think we're going to get pushback on that."

Several sources confirmed a Post report last month that TCU is a strong candidate. Houston, Central Florida, Temple and/or Villanova, which is in the midst of evaluating a move up from FCS, are other lead candidates.

Two sources said if the presidents give their blessing to explore expansion, invitations could be issued before the end of the college football season. TCU is said to be very interested, as is Central Florida.

Is USF going to allow Central Florida to move up?

And a 20-team conference in most sports is going to be a mess.

it's really funny that they'd consider FCS teams moving up straight into a BCS conference while Boise stays out there in the cold

Why not Army and Navy...oh and the golden question...why not just give Notre Dame a fricking ultimatum already? Either join the conference full time or get out!

very true and all they do is bitch and moan, they need to worry about selling out their HS stadium before playing in a BCS league

Leavitt was so insecure about his team that he was the one really leading the 'keep UCF out' charge. Holtz has stated he is interested in playing UCF again so he probably isn't as anti-UCF as Leavitt was. I never understood why the rest of the Big East teams went along with Leavitt, adding UCF would increase the conference's recruiting prescense in Florida and add a huge media market in Orlando. Seems like a no-brainer.

Conference USA has teams in Ohio, Florida, and west Texas. It's not ideal, especially for the non-revenue sports, but it's feasable and adding a team like TCU would be worth it. I also think it's funny that TCU and UCF would probably be the two best teams in the Big East this year.

Not sure raiding the MAC and C-USA is a good recipe for making your conference stronger. That's how they got into this mess to begin with.

TCU's budget would go from about 50 Million to about 75 Million. Travel would go up from about 1 Million to 1.5 Million.

Because ND has the Big East by the balls. Big East does that, the Irish say "fine, see ya". Big East is screwed.

How are they screwed? Does Notre Dame bring anything special to any sport in the Big East?
