The stadium itself was pretty terrible on the inside.

Great. The Atlanta Olympics were the WOAT.

US government needs to stop propping up this shithole.

I'd rather go to fricking Kabul.

Leave your trolling for the soccer board, for frick's sake

Location of stadium pretty much kills it.

It's only immediately adjacent to a shite ton of touristy activities, music venues and hotels.

It's not New Orleans, but Atlanta is pretty much the same as most other major cities hosting these events.

Hotels are certainly not a problem, but the CNN center and a shitty park? The Tabernacle and some bad corporate chain restaurants?

Its been a while since I was there last, so maybe its changed a great deal.

The proximity of the dangerous areas to the stadium and its patrons are a bit different though. Not sure how that is deniable.

Believe it or not they are building up around the new stadium. New Hard Rock hotel is going right next to it along with other developments. Sure it will still have some bad parts, but just as you do in NOLA, you walk a certain direction and you are fine.

Aquarium, Coke, CFB HOF, whatever the new museum is, plus a growing expanse of restaurants and bars and venues from that area into West Midtown

As a local I don't really care about that part of downtown, but it's better than it was and fine for tourists. I do agree that more local bars and restaurants will help, and they're coming.

The new movie industry is really starting to do wonders for Atlanta's economy. Mid-town will be hella place to hang out within the next 5-10 years.

There's areas to the west of the dome that you don't want to go in, but directly around the dome is fine.

Turner Field is another story...surrounded by shite.

College Football Hall of Fame, Georgia Aquarium, World of Coca Cola, National Center for Civil and Human Rights, Children's Museum of Atlanta, Skyview Atlanta...

This. The area around the Dome is fine. You don't want to wander too far from the Ted though.

Lived in Midtown for three years. 2011 to 2014. Best place to live in the city.

Atlanta is already developing some really solid neighborhoods. It's night and day from what it was before I left for college. Back then, you had a smattering of notable bars and restaurants throughout the city, a string of shitty but fun bars in Buckhead, and lame stuff for tourists who didn't know any better.

Inman Park has come to life as a culinary destination, VA Highland is still solid, Decatur continues to do well, Buckhead is whatever you want it to be, West Midtown is exploding, and Midtown continues to grow and improve as the most pleasant business and visitor corridor.

Despite the City's focus on downtown through stupid concepts like the streetcar, what'll really bolster the park area is the southward expansion of West Midtown and the continued growth of Inman, Old Fourth Ward/Ponce City Market.

Vine City (west of Northside Drive) is pretty crappy, but improving. The area east of the Dome (Downtown) is fine. Even the area around the Ted (Summerhill) will blow up once GSU starts building out its southern campus extension.

Which is due to be expanded city wide if the MARTA expansion bill passes in November. The first leg downtown was always intended to be the starting point.

How in the world can an able bodied man feel scared for his life while with 71k college football fans who for the most part probably look just like you? I don't feel the slightest bit scared at a Falcons game which the demographics are much much different. I mean damn TTs.

The Beltline, from my understanding, is really blowing up too. I hope to move back in the next few years. Have to be making enough to send my son to private school though.

I think he was talking about the Birds/Camthers game. Falcon fans did get a little squirrely afterwards.
