Am I the only one who remembers the SanAntonio series in the finals a few times where they dared Lebron to shoot from outside and he was miserable? Just miserable. Mavericks too. If you have the defenders to play off him and then just attempt to contest his shot (along with defenders who can collapse the lane if he attempts to drive) he is limited.

Few teams have been able to do that and San Antonio did that. It was a stark contrast to the fact nothing stopped Jordan. Nothing. Absolutely nothing.

But inside the arc is where the real magic happened, with Michael scorching opponents from everywhere. He hoisted 1,202 total midrange attempts on the year, per NBA.com, 310 more than the next-highest guard by volume, Mitch Richmond. He was seventh of 99 guards attempting at least 150 midrange looks at 48.9 percent, trailing specialist-types like Mugsy Bogues, Dell Curry and teammate Steve Kerr.

Glen Rice had on helluva year that year. 50.4% on mid range shots, 47% from 3. Yeesh.

And yet, Jordan lost before the Finals how many times?

When we taking shooting ability it's safe to say anything outside of the lane is relevant.

The bigger issue was that LBJ refused to take the shot. The finals when LBJ kept shooting it he was pretty good and they won the series.

In fairness, he won game 7 by constantly shooting long range jumpers.

I believe Pride has debunked this multiple times to show they've played teams with the same amount of wins on average.

Man, ya'll a harsh bunch for sure.

I am a Lebron fan ...

I just remember the series early in his career and also the Mavericks and one of the other series losses to the Spurs while in Miami.

I never seen Jordan shut-down. The Jordan rules didn't take advantage of any weaknesses. That wasn't it's purpose.

Jordan at 50% midrange. Lebron is .428 3-10 ft .363 10-16 ft .386 16 ft + Not even close

We only have the data on Jordan for 97 and 98. He shot 48.9% on mid-range shots in 97 and 43.2% in 98, at a time in his career when his mid range game was at its best.

LeBron has a few years in that same range as he's developed his jump shot - essentially the Miami years onward.

I can point out bad games MJ had in the Finals, people just forget that and think he was epic every single game.

Cowherd must read the MSB. He's talking about Lebron vs MJ right now...and specifically their shooting ability and how MJ wouldn't be quite as dominant now.

And it's not just shooting--it's across the board. And it's not that outlandish a thing to say, either, if you stop and think about it.

I'm not referring to the series they won.

Illegal defense rules are a game changer.
