I mean, they wouldn't be researching the guys background if not for his performance this year and them wanting to profile him. But once they found the info, they felt they had a responsibility to run it once verified.
Yep. The editor also discussed the school's admissions policies for sex offenders within the context of this situation. Since this is a public institution, I think running the story was completely justifiable

I'm no expert, but I would bet money if you're a teenager who is touching a relative who is in pre-kindergarten, you were probably sexually abused yourself.
I'd say there is a greater than 50/50 shot he was.
This guy would not be on my baseball team anymore. If this was him groping a girl a few years younger than him, fine. If this was a Jeremy Hill situation where he got a BJ from a freshman when he was a senior, fine.
This is him REPEATEDLY, for multiple years, molesting a toddler when he was a post-pubescent (likely) teenager that also was a family member.
I agree with lsurpride as well about the data. That data lumps it all together. There are massive degrees of variation in that bucket of criminal sexual activity. That's like using the recidivism rate for harcore rapists and applying it to a 19 year old charged with stat rape for dating a high schooler. They should not be taken seriously when grouped together.

I wonder if / how ESPN will cover this if OSU makes the CWS. Like if he's pitching it's hard to imagine the announcers talking about something so despicable.
Posted on 6/8/17 at 3:27 pm to little billy
I honestly do not think I could announce his game
I really couldn't. We are going to talk baseball, and pan to kids in the crowd, while this guy pitches?
Ask Bomani would say, "nah dog, that ain't my thing"

How would this story have been different if he went to Baylor??
Spare me from the statue jokes please

The victim's mother said she does not keep tabs on Heimlich but knows he's one of the top players in the United States. She said her daughter was young enough that "she doesn't really remember everything that happened," but nonetheless has been ostracized from family events because most members of the Heimlich family have sided with Luke.
"He got two years of counseling and classes," she said. "My daughter's life has been changed for the rest of her life."
You know his family is all kinds of fricked up. They're probably upset that the victim's mother took it to the authorities instead of keeping it under wraps. That's pretty common in these situations.

does anyone know if hes gonna pitch tomorrow or saturday. i just cannt fathom a situation where he does but i havent heard anything even regarding the situation coming from osu, university or team

Also, she'll probably sue his arse before the ink is dry on his MLB contract.

I'd say he WAS a sure fire 1st round pick.

He needs to be removed from the team immediately. This wasn't a misunderstanding. It was years of premeditated molestation. The victim is still only 11 years old. Just awful.

As much as I hate to say it, this guy may commit suicide. Not only is his life long dream about to be shattered right before it became reality, his name is going to plastered all over national newspapers in the morning. This story is going to get big, especially if OSU lets him pitch tomorrow, although I can't see that happening. Think about it. Nationally humiliated and called a despicable piece of shite (which he deserves) along with dreams shattered all in one weekend, right before the draft. Someone better keep a close eye on this guy and take all sharp objects and shoe laces.

frick this shite. We shouldn't even have to spend one second contemplating this. If I'm the Coach, he's off the team. If the Coach is a frick-nut and I'm the team captain, he's getting the frick beat out of him (by all members of the team - including the bat boys) and then he's kicked off the team.

I mean, that's how a lot of criminal shite leaks right before the NBA & NFL draft, after all the vetting.

As someone mentioned earlier...the recidivism rate amongst sex offenders, especially on children, is extremely high. Some behaviors are beyond rehabilitation...I believe in second and third chances except when it comes to sexual abuse on a child...fukrs should be put down like a rabid dog.

ESPN is going to have a field day for this if they make it to Omaha, the coverage will be off the charts. As long as they go the more they will talk about it.
No way I would play him if I'm Oregon St - they actually still have a ton of pitching without him.
It's not worth the negative press that's coming.

Wel those sports have a much larger media following at the collegiate level and the draft is a 6 month spectical for the NFL. Media people are much more eager to find some dirt on the higher profile NFL/NBA guys vs 1 kid in the MLB draft out of 2073028492 dudes that get drafted that day.

Look at some of their fan's posts on Oregon State's message board - Benny's House (that's a creepy fricking name).
quote:
Will not mention or link to avoid driving traffic to their site but i have actual hate for that "news organization". I dont hate easily or because i want to. But to do what they did today to Luke Heimlich, on the day before he pitches, based on what should be privacy protected court documents is the most reprehensible, scummy, villainous, smear tactic they have ever pulled. I hope every single person in the Oregon State athletic department stonewalls that "news organization"
quote:
not sure what that has do with the fact this "news organization" puts this headline on their front page today: Lxxx Hxxxxx sex crime surfaces as OSU baseball nears College World Series Do you understand it didnt surface now. They dug up it a while ago, and surfaced it TODAY. It's also a juvenile matter. Baylor's events were against ADULT athletes. There is a difference in the eyes of the law.
quote:
Right you are. This didn't happen at Oregon State This did not involve Oregon State athletes or students. This did not even happen in the State of Oregon. This did not happen recently. So what exactly does it have to do with Oregon State's baseball game tomorrow? Nothing.
quote:
is what a sick act? You know nothing about it. Because this involves juveniles. Do you understand?
quote:
I am NOT comparing Luke Heimlich to Jerry Sandusky, but it seems like not reporting his past transgressions made the situation far worse in retrospect.
quote:
The man served his sentence and has been clean ever since. People in his position present no greater risk to the community as the rest of us. All these comparisons with Penn State and Baylor are nonsense and concerns about his participation in camp is unwarranted.
quote:
This have not have been newsworthy if he were just a student. It's news because he plays baseball really well. Yes, what he did was wrong. He has paid his debt to society. He should be able to live the rest of his life.

Have other women started coming forward yet?
If they haven't, then they will, ESPECIALLY if he lucks out and gets drafted

I wonder if he participated in any camps with youth or anything like that?
If not, I wonder how they justified it?
Also, don't most athletes live on campus for at least their freshman year, so was he allowed to do so?
I have a lot of questions about this whole ordeal.
