Are the red sox players retarded or just delusional?

Salty in particular. Just saw his interview. Not sure how anyone can watch that replay and not say it was obstruction.

yeah...that was the first thing I saw during the live play. the runner going home and the 3rd baseman raising his legs up. so obvious.

I didn't actually see the trip as it happened (was focusing on home plate) but when Craig wasn't anywhere close to home plate and the ball is already there it was clear that something crazy had to of happened. there's no way that was possible.
I still think it was a pretty heads-up play by Middlebrooks the game is definitely over if he doesn't try it and when he did try it and it worked to slow Craig there was still probably only a 50-50 shot it would be called against him. If Craig hadn't tripped quite so badly but was merely slowed a teeny bit and was out on a bang-bang play at the plate I think it goes uncalled.

It was obstruction both by order of the rule as well as perceived intent (by Middlebrooks). Middlebrooks made a clear attempt to left his feet up after he first had them down on the ground. When I saw it live, I said "game over" before Craig ever got back to his feet.
Just a bad play by Middlebrooks not realizing that Craig is already slow... now injured... and they had a decent shot at him without the obstruction.
It would have been a really tough call for the umps if Middlebrooks wouldn't have lifted his feet up and Craig still stumbled with Middlebrooks laying in the basepath.

Yeah hobbled or not he walks in. And intent doesn't even matter. That's what makes the red sox players interviews awesome.

It's all conjecture, but Craig was beaten by the throw by a good bit (2 or 3 steps). Middlebrooks' attempt was just too obvious... there was no way he wasn't going to get called.

Exactly... you have to bet the umps were happy Middlebrooks threw his feet up. Made the right call a lot easier to make. Can you imagine the outrage if Craig trips on Middlebrooks while he's laying down?

Yeah Peavy looked like a douche there. They are trying to make this call a scapegoat in place of their poor decision making, and execution.

I haven't seen the Red Sox players interviews, but if they are debating this call they are a bunch of douchebags. Every single one of them have played enough ball to know that Middlebrooks definitely tried to get as big as possible and slow down Craig. It happens all the time at first base.

My question is: does it matter if Middlebrooks is in the base line or not? From what I saw, he's on the inside of 3rd base and is more on that line than he is the home plate line. Maybe lifting his feet was a way of clearing a path. I think not, but just playing devils advocate.
If Craig follows the home plate line, Middlebrooks may not obstruct at all.

they are players after an emotional loss. Its normal for a human being to try and put the blame on someone else instead of you and your teamates being the cause.

Middlebrooks stuck his feet up twice, he probably wouldve gotten away with it the first time. I dont condone the red sox players for their thoughts, theres alot of money and pride on the line. They do sound like whiners though.

I know they sound bad, but it is an emotional reaction, not a rational one.
I couldn't tell you the number of times that I have had a similar reactions to they right call. It's easy to get caught up in the moment and even some time afterwards. And those games/calls were utterly meaningless in comparison to this one. They are playing in the series of the world. Let's give em a break for sounding like a crew of 5 year olds who got their favorite toy taken away

This is the problem. The baserunner defines the baseline, not the foul lines. Once he touches third, he could run to the mound and then home as long as he's not attempting to avoid a tag.

I dislike both teams but you're right. There's really no way that wasn't obstruction. People who are pissed off are making a fool out of themselves.
