And isn't Popovich basically admitting when he does it that his team isn't as good as the other team?
What? Do teams admit they aren't as good as the other team when they kick FGs?

For all the people who say it makes the game unwatchable, I disagree. The dynamics of it are entertaining to me and the crowd seems to be really involved when it happens(loud when Jordan makes the fts)
HA, ok.
I usually turn the channel when it starts. I'm sure I'm not the only one.

What do the San Antonio Spurs pay him to do? Win games. If his tactics help them win games, then he is doing his job. What do the Los Angeles Clippers pay DeAndre Jordan to do? Help them win games. If missing the majority of his free throws does not help his team win, then he is not doing his job.
Why criticize the person who is doing what he gets paid for instead of the one who is not? This isn't one of those it's not whether you win or lose, it's how you play the game situations. The Spurs' tactics are within the rules of the game. What is the difference between intentionally fouling someone about to score a layup and intentionally fouling Jordan away from the ball? Both are done to lessen the opponents chances of scoring. Why is one acceptable, and the other not?

It's like calling Sun Tzu a pussy for not employing a Pickett's charge frontal assault in every battle.

Is it so much worse now than when I first saw it happen to Shaq in college? When it happened, I'd get more annoyed because I knew Shaq wasn't going to make those FT's. We all knew "if you would figure that part out, it wouldn't happen anymore".
The bigger issue back then, especially against UT in the SEC tournament was that it wasn't just getting fouled. Shaq was getting karate chopped most of the time. Taking a foul is a part of the game, but pretty much getting assaulted every time you get the ball can definitely get to you, hence him lashing out and starting that brawl.

No, Pop doesn't give a shite. He wants to win. If they win a ring this year somehow and they make it by doing the hack a shaq, will anyone remember how they won it?
Will they care?
Frick no. They will just see the sixth banner hanging in the rafters.

Jeff Van Gundy had an interesting idea to stop intentional fouls. He wants free throws to count for two points which means a player would get one free throw every time they go to the line.
That would create other issues without resolving the core of the current problem which is you shouldn't be rewarded for 'fouling' in any situation.
Intentional fouls should be one free throw and possession.
That said, Pop and the Spurs should absolutely utilize the hack-a-Shaq strategy, that's a flaw in the rules that any good coach would exploit.

I don't follow Basketball because of this BS. it ruins the game when truly better team dominates and in the last 5 minutes a team can just foul at will on purpose and call 800 timeouts and close a 12 point gap. That isn't fun to watch. IT FLAT SUCKS.
Would be like a football team jumping offsides when down 2 TDs in the final 2 minutes and forcing the offense to kick a 45 yard fg. DUMB

Well it's going to be on the table at the NBA Rules committee meeting for a reason. It makes for shitty TV.

Nope. It's a 100% legitimate tactic. The reason for the hactic is shitty free throw shooters. Become a better free throw shooter and it won't happen.
Exactly. These guys are supposed to be the best in the world at basketball. Become a better FT shooter.

I disagree, it's like chess. Sometimes you have to sacrifice a pawn (take a foul) to put yourself in a better position.
It's like intentionally walking in baseball

I still like my idea... Free throws from off ball fouls when in the bonus can be declined by the coach. They can choose to just take the ball out instead.
Problem solved without coming up with goofy rules like 1 free throw counts as 2 points.

I still like the current rule. If you can't shoot a free throw, it's your problem.

How the frick does a 5 yard penalty MAKE someone kick a field goal?

There is no flaw. The flaw lies with shitty free throw shooters. Make your damn free throws or sit down.

What rule keeps getting referred to? You can foul as long as you haven't fouled out? There's already a flagrant foul in place. If people think THAT should be called in these situations, jeez.

You're just butthurt because the Rockettes have a roster full of shitty free throw shooters.
ETA - Are you really arguing that the Spurs are inept defensively?
