Absolutely not. Three points:

A) Shoot FTs better and it wouldn't be used.
2) It gives your players additional fouls, increasing the chance they foul out.
D) Puts the other team in the bonus quicker.

All part of the game. Strategery.

Being upset with the practice is akin to people who want to outlaw the defensive shift in baseball. They really just don't understand the game.

The players show no emotion when they do it and hear the boos. I think they're embarrassed. The Clippers could pull Jordan out when they get into the shooting foul situation. Problem is they have no depth. The Spurs have bunches.

Yep, it's all about the game within the game. That's why coaches get paid the big bucks.

You don't start doing it until the other team is in the bonus. But I agree with you

Jordan, and others, are unable to effectively perform a critical part of the game of basketball, shooting free throws. So now there are people advocating a rule change because Pop and the Spurs exploit the weakness of these players. It is laughable.

I think it's more because it's painful to watch and makes for shitty tv. I don't think it's because the NBA feels bad for Deandre Jordan.

I question the effectiveness of it. If the guy makes 50%, that's a point per possession or an Offensive Rating of 100, which is about average. Another issue with it is that it reduces your own opportunities at easy baskets on the break.
Well since he shoots well below 50% (42% career), then it's a sound strategy, albeit one that I don't particularly enjoy watching.

I've seen teams do it prior to the other team reaching the bonus. Not NBA though.

And isn't Popovich basically admitting when he does it that his team isn't as good as the other team?

seems like to me he's pointing out that the opposing team has a huge weakness

Not necessarily. Like I said, it reduces your own break opportunities, as well. Also, he has to shoot below 50% in those specific situations. Often times, it can allow the shooter to find a bit of rhythm. It's a marginal strategy at best.
