I can see Popp's side. I mean don't be 6/17 from the line. Popp seems like he's trying to break the other guys will. Strategy? Make him lose confidence.

The only thing that matters. Greg Popovich doesn't care if anyone gets butthurt.

For all the people who say it makes the game unwatchable, I disagree. The dynamics of it are entertaining to me and the crowd seems to be really involved when it happens(loud when Jordan makes the fts)

it's not popovich's fault that a professional nba player can't make free throws.

this is where its at. Look at his facial expression/body language after a miss. VERY demoralizing.

Exactly. The games I've watched, Popp would call it after Jordan made a huge block or dunk. Like "bitch chill and shoot these free throws"

A huge pussy because his team is better and he knows how to exploit weaknesses?

Pop has won championships not doing it. I respect the hell out of him as a coach. He also sits all those old farts during the year, and it's paying off.

has to shoot below 50% in those specific situations. Often times, it can allow the shooter to find a bit of rhythm. It's a marginal strategy at best.
He's shooting 37% in the playoffs so he's obviously not finding a rhythm. To call it a marginal strategy with him shooting so poorly is just counter to the data.

Rockets fans are hypocrites. Whining about all these free throws ruining the game, while their own Bearded One makes a living on FTs. Shaddup with this bullshite

And isn't Popovich basically admitting when he does it that his team isn't as good as the other team?

No, it's Popovich proving that his team is better than the other team.

Popovich is anything but a puss. I reckon there are other coaches who would shy away from this effective strategy for fear of what ppl might think.

I do think there is a small part of Pop that would rather win without it; just not enough to overcome his desire to win/do his best job as a coach.

A reporter attempted to corner Pop with the question "Do you think you employed the hack-a-Jordan at max efficiency tonight"? Pop replied,"We did it......(long awkward pause)..............so we must have thought it was a good idea."

One of the Grantland writers wrote about the strategy in a way I've never really thought it before..

"Hack-a-Jordan would make Bill Belichick wheeze, “The horror.” But here’s the thing:1 It’s not really about DeAndre. Popovich knows what anyone who watched more than a dozen Clippers games this season knows: It’s hard to beat them with your legs, but you can damn sure get in their heads.

It doesn’t just screw up Jordan; it shuffles Rivers’s rotation, eventually forces Jordan off the floor, breaks Paul’s rhythm, and messes with Griffin’s head. And it sends the Staples Center crowd into a sleepy, surly mood. The nine points Jordan left at the free throw line just disappear into the ether of “what if?” And while we’re all wondering that, Pop takes his team back to Texas, needing just one win in the remaining two games. The fourth quarter of last night’s game began at 1 a.m. on the East Coast. Are you not entertained? Gregg Popovich, resplendent in khakis and an open collar, couldn’t care less.

The beautiful basketball is still there, it’s just the customer service that sucks."

This is so stupid. How is it any different than consistently going after a guy in foul trouble or attacking the weakest defender on the team over and over again.

It's not like the Clippers can't do anything to stop this. There is no rule that says DeAndre Jordan has to be in the game.

I am ok with it. I am pretty sure McHale countered the hack-a-howard during the season by fouling one of the Spurs everytime they fouled Howard. Pop quit doing it

Shaq would make a lot of his free throws when teams would do the hack a Shaq.

I just do not get how you can be an NBA player and not shot at least 60% from the free throw line.
