Mike D’Antoni met with Denver Nuggets management to discuss the franchise’s head coaching opening, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

Denver general manager Tim Connelly conducted a sit-down with D’Antoni in California on Tuesday, league sources said.

D’Antoni’s vaunted running game fits into Denver’s determination that it wants to play faster in the future. Melvin Hunt, the interim coach in the wake of Brian Shaw’s firing, remains a strong contender to retain the full-time job, league sources said.

Wouldn't want him coaching my team but having D'Antoni in the league is good for the sport. I like variety of styles. Makes for interesting matchups.

Mike's offensive philosophy was dubbed 7 seconds or less. Very influential in the game swinging back towards the uptempo style you see today.

I did know that. Just didn't connect. And it still doesn't seem very clever.

Traveling players may die playing at that pace in that altitude

Wasn't that kind of the problem with George Karl and why he was fired? They would kill teams all season, especially at home, and flame out in the playoffs.

I really wasn't trying that hard.

And yes, D'Antoni's offense is dubbed "7 Seconds" or "7 Seconds or Less".

Although most coaches (like Gentry) have largely abandoned that extreme, its still pretty influential to the modern offense.

So they want a coach that runs a fast tempo offense and run in transition all game long...

Why did they fire George Karl again?

Denver likes an entertaining brand of basketball. Doug Moe had a long run there.

Denver is the original place where the NBA first tried this style of play with Paul Westhead in the early 90's. It's only fitting that the Guru's most successful disciple make his triumphant return where it all started.

Karl's problem was that Javel McGee wasn't STAT.

Some roster moves will have to take place if D'Antoni comes back to the Nuggets.

Moe's 'passing game' was the highest-scoring offence of its day.

I don't understand why a team would hire him. Unless I'm mistaken, he's been nothing but a failure wherever he's gone. Never meets expectations.

They should give Hunt a shot. They won't be in the playoffs next year no matter what they do. Hunt did a nice job last season imo. Product of the HOU organization so you know he's a sharp dude.

If you're going to lose, you might as well be entertaining while you do it.
