re: 7 Big East basketball schools leaving

Now the biggest question out of this is whats going to happen now after the Death of BEast?

Would B1G contiunes to expand and try to get to 16 by going after ACC again?

What about SEC, would they follow suit with the SEC Network only a year away by prying Duke/UNC?

What about the B12, That GOR protects them but we all know that Texas has enough money to get out
of that, are they going to make a move?

What about PAC 12, Would Larry Scott try to get more foothold on the East?

Which one is the next one to go, ACC or B12?

That is many questions to this ongoing nightmare in CFB world.

Only until July 1 before these ballers join!!

Temple
UCF
Memphis
Boise St
San Diego St
SMU
Houston
Tulane

A) Some fo those are football only
b) By the time they start playing, the Big East will have already lost teams to other conferences.

Again, not if they slpit the conference up like i already posted. They would be battling 11 teams and playing in a great confernce toury. A new Big East like i suggested would get 6-9 teams in the NCAA regularly. That is a much better scenario then hoping to get invited to the NCAA in the MVC.

I doubt any of this is true, let alone all of it, but I'll grant it to you. But at what point in all of this does Omaha become closer than 470 miles from Chicago?

Joining a conference where their closest confernce mate is 470 miles away and fighting 22 other teams for a bid is better than their current situation?

They should cherry pick a couple from the A-10 and maybe Horizon League. Apparently these Big East basketball schools makes most of their money from their tourney appearances/games. If the're still a 5-6 bid league every year they'll be in a good situation but if they take everyone from the A-10 they're watering down their tourney money.

If they just stuck with Catholic schools, they could go anywhere from 8 to 16 teams all in roughly the same geographic area and still maintain a high level of basketball play. They would probably be wise to stop at about 12 though to maximize on both fronts, keeping deadweight teams and too far flung teams out.

Xavier, Dayton, and St Joes would likely be the first to receive a call. Then St Bonnie, St Louis. Maybe LaSalle, Fordham, and Duquesne. And Creighton if they wanted to go 16 and spread from Providence to Omaha.

It's not going to be a 20-something team league.

You are right. Steal a few Catholic schools from the A-10, and have a 12-16 team Catholic League. Would still be one of the top 5 basketball conferences in the country.

Yep. And if they keep it around 12 teams, they could set up a challenge with the West Coast Conference every year. Used to just be Catholic schools as well, but now BYU (LDS) and Pacific (Methodist) will be there. Big East would roll every year I'm sure, but it would provide some quality OOC matchups.

I actually like this move and hope they do it. The Big East has been a clusterf*ck for years trying to split between football and non-football schools, and then having the best football schools get cherry picked by better conferences.

I like the idea of a 10-12 team conference made up of smaller private universities with similar cultures that are in close geographic proximity.

To me the culture and proximity are what make rivalries. That is one of the things I worry about with SEC expansion, and I say good for these schools for staying true to the identity of their schools/sports teams.

Also it's pretty impressive that Tulane killed the Big East without ever playing a game.

re: 7 Big East basketball schools leaving
From every article I've seen, the top picks to join them are Xavier and St Louis. I didn't think SLU would be that high on the list, but geographically they're a fit, and it's a good recruiting area for basketball.

On the football side ECU AD said they were all sticking together even Boise and SDSU.. I can't see that happening though.

re: 7 Big East basketball schools leaving
Since there is no longer an auto bid for football to the big games, Boise and SDSU should just go back to the MWC and keep that a relatively quality league.
