The presidents of the Big East's seven Catholic, non-Football Bowl Subdivision schools are expected to decide on their future in the Big East in the coming days and it "would be an upset" if they remained in the league, sources told ESPN.

The presidents of the seven schools are scheduled to conduct a teleconference with Big East commissioner Mike Aresco on Thursday and are expected to issue a statement on their schools' future in the next 24 to 48 hours.

So will they just rename the "Big East" Conference-USA now?

this shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone who thought the Catholic basketball schools were going to be happy with all the additions to their conference

Did these basketball only schools not participate in voting all these new teams in? I'd have to think that they did, which is why it comes as a little bit of a surprise.

A Big East source from a football-playing school told ESPN on Sunday, "The basketball schools are not thrilled with Tulane" and "would have fallen off the ledge if we would have added East Carolina as a full member." Williams acknowledged he was "not pleased" specifically about adding Tulane. "I was not pleased that we issued an invitation to Tulane without any diligence to what effect that would have on our basketball product, the draw on our RPI and other such things," Williams told 540 ESPN Milwaukee. "I was disappointed that I wasn't able to participate as a member of the conference in the deliberation that went into adding that."

They must not have had a say. The Marquette AD is not happy with Tulane joining

A basketball conference obviously can't survive in the football TV money grab.

They really made a mess of the whole collegiate landscape when the ACC grabbed Boston College for the football champ. game requirement of # schools.

They needed to split off the hoops schools from the football schools and worked out some deal where UCONN, Syracuse, and BC could have kept their hoops teams involved. They've dicked their own brand and own identity over so many times it's basically value-less.

Most people knew this was going to happen. I hate for that conference to disappear like that but once the ACC kept poaching teams from there and other factors, it would lead to something like this.

That is the reason why I would love the ACC to get hit like that, because they are the one of the biggest reason why Big East is on Life Support right now.

NY Post article

It looks like Tulane had a big part in killing the Big East

Hopefully UAB,Memphis,Cinci, and Uconn get back together for a solid basketball conference.

It's funny how the Big East was the first "made for TV conference," delivering big East Coast TV markets to ESPN.

And then ESPN killed it and poached its best teams on behalf of other conferences, because they refused to sign a big $ deal with them.

And it's not a conspiracy. It's been documented.

The 7 catholic schools should form their own league now, since they can still get an auto bid, and slowly start inviting other catholic schools in their area to join until they get to the number they want. I had listed off schools the other day, but if you take all the Catholic schools from the A10 and Big East, and add Creighton, you can have one helluva 16 team basketball league.

So, in essence, those 7 teams have the ability to make a new league that could go to 8, 10, 12, 14 or 16. However many they feel is appropriate, and be a great basketball league.

Yep.

And these people are being shortsighted and just plain dumb.

No sports team or program is static, and Tulane, unlike some of those seven little sisters, is actually investing in athletics right now.
