My problem is not that he is driving the 3, its that he is driving the same stylized 3 that Senior did

The ruling is in.

Dillion can drive the 3.
Car numbers belong to owners, not drivers.
In a strictly legal sense, there is no obligation for RCR to not use the 3. As a precedent, keep in mind that Teresa held the #8 when Jr. left DEI. Further, enough time has passed, both in an ethical and logical sense, that the 3 should be welcomed back on the track. Dale would have wanted this. He wasn't much for sentiment.

If you disagree with this ruling, I would tell you to do what Dale says:

"Tie a kerosene soaked rag around your ankle so the ants don't crawl up and eat your candy arse".

He seems like an arrogant little prick. I doubt he would be out there if his granddaddy wasn't Richard Childress.

And as somebody mentioned it is the same style 3 that Earnhardt had. He will never be Earnhardt..

Whatever happened to Reed Sorensen? Wasn't he supposed to be the next best thing on NASCAR?

Reed is/was real good on flat tracks, not so much on the mediums. Weak on road courses.

Don't know if he's got a ride for '14.

Joey Logano has not done anything since coming in and Mark Martin called him the best thing since sliced bread.

This kid will win races, but he won't win a title at RCR.

Joey needs to be more of a hardass and quit smiling so much.

'14 he needs to get it done.

Honestly, not many of the young guys had to win or not be able to buy groceries that week (like old Ralph).

Hate it for Trevor on the diagnosis, speaking of young drivers.

No, it's time.

Dale would laugh at us, you know he would.

cant blame the guy for running the 3. Even though every one associates the 3 with Dale Sr, Richard Childress also drove the 3 before Dale Sr.

Also NASCAR owns all the numbers not the teams.

[quote]NASCAR controls and allocates the numbers used on race cars to its participating race teams on an annual basis. The first team who requests use of an available number is typically granted such use, although a preference is given to those who race full time in the respective racing series. No two cars may utilize the same number during a single event, and occasionally (primarily just in NASCAR’s lower-tier series today) a part-time team may be issued a three-digit number if another team is currently featuring the same double-digit number such team requested (e.g., #17 & #117). As the sanctioning body, NASCAR reserves the administrative right to revoke or transfer numbers at any time, for any reason. However, in practice teams are usually awarded the same number(s) on a year-to-year basis. As such, particularly as merchandise sales started to become a strong revenue stream for teams, teams began taking steps to protect their intellectual property rights, including trademarking “their” numbers. - See more at: LINK ]

Hence, my point as to who really "owns" the numbers.

Your link even references Teresa/DEI not letting Dale, Jr. take the 8.

This is the only real #3 to me:

No one will ever look as badass as Dale when in the car:

wish I could find the link but sadly I cant.....

the way it basically works is like this. RCR was issued #s 3,33,29,27 and 31. Now tech NASCAR owns all the #s issued to RCR but RCR can keep them every year if they want.

So like you said DEI had the #8 but in NASCAR eyes even though they own the # DEI has the "rights" to it. So Teresa had the option to release the # or not.

Hope that makes more sense.

I don't have feelings for him either way. He just won a Nationwide championship and ran pretty well in truck series two years ago.

The consensus is he is a spoiled little prick who gets everything handed to him. Most of the other drivers don't like him. Part of the reason harvick had a falling out with childress was RCR trying to pump dillon up to be something he is not. He will do nothing but disgrace the number. No one can stand the arrogance and entitlement he uses. It won't be long before he shows his true colors. I think the # should have been retired except for use by dale jr. Every other sport honors the legends by retiring numbers why can't nascar.
