Today was fun. They wanted to isolate Froome with that first attack, they succeeded.....briefly. But sky regrouped and caught up on the descent. Froome definitely loses this if he doesn't have Porte and Pouels with him there at the end.
Ultimately, Sky was the better team.
Props to Valverde, finally getting on the podium.

I know it will never happen but would love to see an attack on Sky when they were drinking champagne on the road

Let's talk about the stage that determined the tour.....stage 2, the flattest stage of all time. That's disappointing.

Froome also whipped Quintana in stage 10, when he beat him on a climb by 1:04.

It sure looked like Quintana was stronger in the later mountain stages, but maybe Froome was being conservative and making sure he did not blow up. He hinted at that in an interview about the impact of stage 2.

"When asked if Quintana was stronger on the climbs, and how much the stage 2 echelons affected the race, Froome demurred."

“If I didn’t have quite an advantage, maybe the race would have been different. Maybe we would have been more aggressive on other climbs,” Froome said. “People can give ‘what ifs,’ but that was the way it turned out. Nairo pushed me all the way to the end. He’s chosen his moments well. Chapeau to him.”

don't think the breakaway would work on such a flat stage... the peloton would get them back in quickly

ETA: the only chance for Froome to lose yellow today is to fall in the rain-slicked roads and either have to abandon or have it happen on the cobbles of the Champs-Elysees and have to gingerly ride home as Nairo takes it to the line

crosswinds are a biotch

yeah but that was a stage where the GC players were supposed to be in the mix... not stage 2 which was supposed to be a bunch sprint... Nairo losing 1:30+ on stage 2 was HUGE

ETA: and I am still so disappointed about TVG getting so ill on the 1st day in the Alps... you wonder if he would've been on the podium or even may have challenged for the yellow jersey

speaking of TVG... what does the future hold for him? the commentators keep talking abot Richie Porte moving over from Sky to BMC and you know he's not going to help TVG but to try for yellow on his own

they just said BMC

ETA: from Cycling Weekly

A confirmation has yet to come, but Porte is reportedly likely to ride in BMC Racing’s red and black colours in 2016.

so apparently Froome has official won it, he could finish 10 minuets behind Quintana and still take home the yellow. IDK what would happen if he didn't finish but I doubt that would happen.

It was a fun Tour this year, I hope its this mountainous next year.

Froome still has to finish the race... but yes the clock has stopped and Froome is officially the winner as soon as he hits the finish line

race officials stopped the clock early due to the weather

Froome gained that 1:04 in the Pyrenees and Quintana gained almost 2 in the Alps. Nairo hung on the cobbles and did ok in the time trial. Stage 2 crushed him. I agree that a team should be versatile and I appreciate the different stages. I'm just upset that only a few GC riders benefited from the crosswinds. The gap was drastic. Overall, I thought the race was really interesting this year. Great 1st week and a great finish.

Im expecting the next tour to be totally the opposite, more sprints and a proper ITT. I hope its not though as I think next year Contador goes for the tour as one last push

Nairo could obviously attempt the Giro - Vuelta double next year if that is the case.

As for Porte moving to BMC, there is of course 3 GTs, and/or joint leadership in the tour.

Some have spoken of him possibly moving to Trek, although BMC have denied those rumors.

As for his podium chances, I would've been very surprised if he hung with Valverde through the Alps.

TJ would have beat Valverde in the Alps in my opinion. He went heads up with Froome in the criterium in the Alps.
