Agree with everything you just said.

One of my favorite things about horse racing is that most of the old records still stand. Unlike every other major sport.

wow, i did not notice the final time

the top 3 horses got the greatest trips. average fractions, only 2 wide, favorite with the greatest trip and they were dead arse tired and crawling the last 1/4.

super horses my arse 26 3/5 the last 1/4, 51 the last half?? On those average fractions. lol

Going to be a replay in the Preakness, unless something freaky or horrible happens. Gonna throw Danzig into the mix just in case.

As we all will.

Some nice betting races on the undercard. Rosario is loaded.

Yeah, speed is holding strong at Pimlico this week. Something just tells me AP won't win. I am guessing Dortmund gets it over Firing Line.

And I agree with you Aspercel, not only is Dortmund just a ugly name when said aloud, he doesn't have the noblest of heads. Firing Line is probably the prettiest of the bunch.

Speaking of pretty, California Chrome just looks a picture in the videos/pictures from Newmarket. I just love his inquisitive nature and how he holds his head, surveying the world around him.

I realize these are names of German soccer teams; that knowledge doesn't make the name any more elegant to pronounce out loud.

I am completely against changing the triple crown. It seems like people want one so bad that there willing to cheapen it to get one. When the right horse comes along, he will do it and it will be worth the wait.

I'm against changing it too because we'd have triple crown winners all the time.

I am ok with the Preakness on Sunday, though. That's not a major shift.

My favorite Preakness moment is the first turn of Secretariat's 73 triple crown. He goes into the turn last, and comes out of it in front. The most unbelievable 30 seconds I have ever seen.

If Secretariat doesn't win the TC that year, Sham does.

4 units American Pharoah to win
3 units Firing Line to place
2 units Danzing Moon to show
1 unit Trifecta: 1. American Pharoah, 2. Firing Line, 3. Dortmund

I have a hard time getting off of a combination of 1,2,4,8 in all types of exotics.

How many Triple Crown winners since Affirmed would we have if horses did not start skipping the Preakness to rest up for the Belmont?

There have always been new horses in the Belmont and in the Preakness.

8 I believe, those horses might have lost in the Preakness however, if you make Belmont winner run the Preakness. Also only Smarty Jones of these 8 finished 2nd in the Belmont.

If you are only counting horses going for the triple crown and finishing behind non Preakness runners only, then 4.

Chrome, Smarty Jones, Charismatic, Funny Cide

Nothing gets me more angry than the people who want the races restricted to those who have run in the previous races. I'll use last year as an example...

Tonalist was meant to by a derby contender but he got sick. By the time he was better he had no derby points so couldn't get in. The connections then used the local Belmont prep the Peter Pan to get to the belmont. Should they have skipped the Belmont and a grade 1 win for their colt just to not spoil a triple crown? That's crazy talk.

Tn, this is not directed at you.you were just the last post. It's directed at all the casual race fans that whine about it not being fair that fresh horses can run in the Belmont.

Yes and he wasnt included in my list of 8 or 4 because a runner in the Preakness(Victory Gallop) was the one that defeated him.

Silver Charm was another pretty close one the year prior. Touch Gold, however, also ran in the Preakness and wasnt included in my list.

That was actually the first preakness I remember. Touch Gold stumbled out of the gate.
