Man O War is the GOAT because, not only was he an incredible racehorse, he established both a great sideline as well as having incredibly influential broodmare daughters. Seriously, just look through the pedigrees of many of the top American horses today, and see how many times his sons and daughters appear. It is just stunning the level of influence.
AP is certainly a very, very good horse, but this race absolutely fell apart behind him. Literally half the field finished the race eased up because of the track. What bothers me a bit about this crop is that if you are looking at just about every TC prep and TC race this year have been slow time wise. Sure they keep getting ridiculously high numbers, but it just bothers me that pretty much FL was the only one who actually ran fast, granted on a souped up track. It is just bizarre to me.
Basically, I feel as though if AP was really this great, I should be feeling it more. While I like and respect him, he just doesn't move me. Hell, I still remember that power move Point GIven put around the final turn in the Belmont. He might be the last American bred dirt horse that absolutely was hitting his best stride at the end of a mile and a half race. I want to feel blown away like that from AP, and so far I haven't quite been.

Well hopefully someone will come to run in the belmont and beat this horse.

AP, Tale of Verve, Madefromlucky, Stanford, Frosted, Materiality, Keen Ice, Mubtaahij, Carpe Diem, and Frammento are all potential Belmont runners from what I'm seeing.
alot of Pletcher
So AP would be the only one to run all three legs. I believe this would be a first ever.

Looks like its this minus Stanford and add Conquest Curlinate and War Story for a field of 11.

I feel a little better about the time now. I read they sealed it, then opened it up and harrowed, then the rain hot.
I'm sure the time would have been better if the track had stayed sealed up. They sealed it for the race after.

Looch is at it again saying war story is in and going to the lead.
Amoss said it was news to him. Looch has been with Amoss a year now so I guess it's time for him to yank his horses and find a trainer who will run where he tells them too.

I think hes an incredable horse and if he wins the Belmont with nearly the entire field rested, he should go down as one of the top 10 of all time. I think Ill have another would have won the belmont as well and think that horse is a more impressive horse than AP, but he is somthing special if he wins in NY.

I am not worried about that Preakness time. There was good reason it was slow. However, I do think people are getting a bit carried away about how impressive AP was over the surface, when it was quite obvious that the only two equally talented horses in the race absolutely detested the slick surface while AP obviously moves up on one.
I do think that AP is absolutely the best in the crop so far, although it will be interesting to see if Kentuckian continues to stretch out and his feet don't fall off. However, I really do not think that AP will get a mile and a half. However, that only matters if there is a horse in the field that will. I do think there are a few that are- Materiality, Mubtaahij, and Keen Ice.
I am also a bit intrigued by Baffert's media answer and moves- going back to CD rather than on to Belmont. His brush with death has either completely mellowed him, or he also realizes that the distance is going to be a big factor and there is nothing he can do to make a horse that isn't likely to get the distance get the distance against horses that can.

i'll say this. pletcher does good in the belmont. that's his home track. he got rags to riches to win in 2007. dunkirk damn near won it in 2009.

I'm still betting mubtaahij. Kinda followed him all winter. Good on them for bringing him and then letting him stay.

And apparently the deal pays more if he wins the triple crown.

As I texted you earlier, it is Coolmore and they plan to stand him at Ashford. Zayat said he plans to finish out the year as long as the horse is healthy. From what I understand he will continue to get bonus money for every GI race win and apparently the deal was done before the Arkansas Derby. I just want him standing here in Ky.
