Figured STM. Trying to continue the rivalry . Even thought I don't think westgate won in the 10+ games they met.

Didn't realize that was a rivalry. The good news for Westgate is that the district is up for grabs. I don't see any of the Bayou teams putting up much of a fight.

When Westgate first started playing football in '01 or '02, they were in the same district as STM. When Westgate moved to 5A, STM stayed in 4A. Then about 3-4 years ago STM moved back in the same district as Westgate in 5A.

NISH might be the only challenge for Westgate.

I agree. Yeah, Terrebonne had a great season last year, but we saw what happened when they met up with NISH. The lack of competitiveness in that district was the main reason why Terrebonne got to 8-0 at one point.

Yeah, hopefully it doesn't hurt Westgate in the playoffs. That's why I'm glad they schedule schools like JC, STM, Carencro and Breaux Bridge.

...especially when 13 of the teams ahead of you had worse records than you did (in terms of winning %). But when you're schedule looks like this:

W - Comeaux (1-9)
W - Ellender (0-10)
W - Wossman (5-5)
W - Central Lafourche (2-8)
W - Thibodaux (4-6)
L - South Lafourche (4-6)
W - Brusly (3-7)
L - Terrebonne (9-1)
W - HL Bourgeouis (2-8)
L - Assumption (7-3)

...it doesn't help at all. 2 opponents with winning records. 1 with a 0.500 record. They definitely should have done a better job with non-district scheduling. Having Ellender as an opponent every year KILLS their power rating.

Yes...yes it is. But that's why I like the power rating system that Louisiana uses now. Sure you can go undefeated through a season...but if you're beating up on the little sisters of the poor week after week, that doesn't mean you have that great of a team. This is typically what happens to the Bayou District winner year-after-year. They win district and do nothing in the playoffs. Terrebonne was 9-1 last season with it's only loss to an 8-2 NISH team. They are seeded 12th and BARELY squeak by a 6-4 Mandeville team that's seeded at #21. Then Jesuit dominated them in the 2nd round of the playoffs.

The schools down there complained like crazy when Hahnville, ESJ and Destrehan were in the district because none of them had a chance to win the title. Now they can win district and nothing else. PLUS they get to travel to the Lafayette area now once or twice a year. I love it. It definitely sucks for NISH and Westgate, though, to be stuck with the travel requirements of the new district.

For the last 14 years it's been West Monroe and then everyone else. 11 trips to the Dome in those 14 seasons. 7 in a row at one point. However, WM has some questions that need to be answered. QB and RB have some question marks. Connor Osborne is the heir apparant to take over for Paul Turner. But he is being pushed by Michael Mims who is a junior and won WM's Ironman. He is a stud. The other question is TB. Who is going to take over for Tyler Cain? There are some young players that can step in, namely STeven Jones, a sophomore. He's the real deal!

As for the defense.....LOADED!!! No need to even discuss it!

If the defense can allow the offense to get in gear, I expect great things from this team. Along with a great schedule, come playoff time, WM is going to be tough to beat.

Can't disagree on WM. I think Acadiana is right behind WM right now.

I just started looking at the schedules yesterday. I'm pretty pumped that the annual Hahnville/Destrehan rivalry is in week 10 now. Could be a possible district 8-5A title game!

Good possibility. They have a pretty hefty non-district schedule this year with games @ Mandeville, @ Redemptorist & @ East St John as well as a home match-up with Catholic (BR). District competition should be a breeze for them.

Parkview Baptist will be in the Dome this year for a 3rd straight trip. Young but BIG offensive line, the whole backfield is returning, qb is returning and #1 wr is returning. Defense loses 5 seniors but is reloading including returning 3A defensive MVP NG Tom Bove who is a Wofford commit
