The '98 Vikings were a damn good football team.

and further proof that a single game elimination doesn't always get it right.

it is what it is though.

The 06 Chargers too. They had 11 Pro Bowlers and only lost one score games on the road to playoff teams.

What makes that redskins team special is how many stars off the top of your head can you name? I'm not sure that team had any super stars

The 80s Redskins (and the 91 team is the vestigal tail of that dynasty) might be the most underrated team in sports history. Three Super Bowls and they are treated as an afterthought.

Joe Jacoby, arguably the best player on the team and the anchor of what is potentially the greatest offensive line in league history, STILL isn't in the Hall of Fame. Art Monk had to wait over a decade despite owning many of the records Jerry Rice would later break.

Their recent slide into irrelevance colors how we view that team's historic greatness.

That was a great team, but they, like the Vikes, were also the beneficiaries of a weak schedule so therefore it followed they would finish 14-2 with top ten offenses and defenses.

Doesn't help that 2 of those titles came in strike years or that they got destroyed in Super Bowl XVIII. The 49ers passed them as team of the decade and the Cowboys dynasty and the fact they never did anything after overshadow 91.

Didn't have all the personalities the 49ers and Cowboys had to really resonate with the public and generate tons of publicity, good or bad. All they did was dominate fools unlike anything we've ever seen and win the championship.

You are talking about the 91 team and the dominating you are referring to shows up mostly on paper and for just that season. No one can see SOS. The 85 Bears were not only colorful, but looked more dominant The 49ers (and Cowboys for that matter) also were better big picture wise. They won SB in 88-89, we in NFCCG in 90, 92 and 93 losing to eventual Champ and won SB again in 94.

MOV of 16 pts against a tougher schedule than those 49ers and 85 Bears, check the records SOS is there and you can compare by year, quite fascinating.

And Monk. Jacoby should be in, but it is hard to judge OL. He was the best OL on the best OL of all time. He should be in.

Could make a strong argument for Gary Clark and Wilber Marshall imo.

Yeah Wilbur AND Matt Millen were on that team! Always associate them with their prior franchises.

What relevance does the HOF amount have with determining whether a particular single-season team was the best or not? It's about dominance and the relevant statistical categories ie the performance. To counter this straw man, the Buffalo Bills had HOFers on their squad and they didn't win a Super Bowl so what's the point brah?

You can try all you want.... say what you want... make all the excuses you want..... the 1989 49ers were better. The 1984 49ers were better and the 1985 bears were better... he'll I'll even throw in the 1978 Steelers team.....
