Would you try to negotiate for a new car online with a group email?

We are probably getting the new Pilot Elite in the next few weeks. There are about 5-6 dealerships in the area that have it in various colors. The MSRP is the same at all of them. Would I be able to get a better deal by emailing them all and seeing who will undercut the other?

There won't be much, if any, difference on the new Pilot

Exactly my point. Try to see who will give the best deal on, other than color, is the exact same vehicle.

I can't help but think that sending the emails separately and keeping them blind would net you a better result.

Good luck, historically Honda does not discount much to begin with, add to that a new year model with a drastic body style change that is in high demand and short supply right now, I will bet most are going pretty close to sticker

Its worth a shot, but none of the dealerships are giving anything more than a dollar off of the new Pilots.

I just bought one for my wife a few weeks ago. The order backlogs are huge, its hard for them to even get their hands on a model with navigation.

Flying off the shelves, if you dont buy it, someone else will.

They might be willing to help you out a little more on a trade in though.

No it is a bad idea. Internet manager are typically instructed not to take part in group exchanges with other dealerships. You may get some of them to bite, but why let them know what the others are offering. You're talking about a small discount and you greatest negotiating tool is them not knowing what prices you have been quoted.

The new Pilot is selling close to MSRP. If you would like to save a couple thousand likely have to wait until the Summer when inventory will catch up to demand. Coach G can confirm.

Typically, they will not respond.

We've tried various bidding techniques with varying degrees of success. Open bids, closed bids, reverse bids, etc. For negotiating a vehicle, typically you can do a blind quote, and use that as leverage against the other. Some dealers won't want to mess with it and say "go buy from them", while others are hungry for that business. A new pilot that will sell either way....prob not going to move much.

Good luck.

This is modern twist on a strategy from the Millionaire Next Door. Email obviously wasn't around at that time.

I doubt it would hurt to try. Let us know how it works out.

I negotiated an Elite to $43,700 using true car and searching large city zips (Hou and Atl). Did not end up purchasing. If you just email dealers in your area, they might cut off $1000, but many are sticking to MSRP or slightly below.

My username at gmail dot com. We are going to test drive the Elite tomorrow to make sure we like the 9 speed tranny. We test drove an exl last July. We are in the DFW area so it would have to be a great deal to get us to travel to buy one.

Friend just got one in South Florida. He did not get much of a break. As others have mentioned, high demand, new body style, etc.

Took 1187.00 off one today and I was

Haha.

If you can wait until Feb or March you'll start to see some drops in price. It makes very little sense to take much off because we simply cannot keep them on the lot.

We ended up buying a 2016 Toyota Highlander Limited Platinum today. We had financing of 1.99% from PenFed, the dealership went down to 1.9%, not much lower, but we took that.

The main problem with the Pilot was all the options added by the dealer and their unwillingness to move on the price at all. That stuff added a few thousand to the price that they don't show online.

The wife is happy even though I think we could have gotten a better price. Maybe it is just me thinking I always leave too much on the table no matter what happens.

Had a local dealership tell me that about mine and I went to Houston and they beat them by $2500.

What did you end up paying for the Highlander, if you don't mind my asking? Will probably be in the market soon for the wife.
