capitol one because back in the day it was Hibernia, the only bank in my home town.

I do have a checking account for my small spending during the week with USAA. I am thinking about changing everything to USAA. Lately capitol one service has been very crappy.

Two thoughts:

1. I'm dissapointed everyone is naming an institution and not a person. Does no one have a banker they work with and have followed to a few different banks b/c of loyalty and relationship?

2. Lots of credit unions being repped on this board. Does it not bother anyone they are "non profit" and pay no taxes?

I have a banker, and I agree with the comments that mention this. I had a significant uninsured flood loss. Something some folks down there might be familiar with. All non owner occupied properties. All well outside of the "preferred risk" flood zones. No FEMA help for me.

They've been there for me. Afterwards they told me they lent me money based solely on my character, and declined some other, larger accounts based on the same reason. There were no good financial reasons to loan to me, I was upside down at least $750K. During the middle of it, when I hadn't been paying them, they lent me money to buy another business.

I have since recovered to the extent possible, and they have been rewarded by my loyalty and interest income.

Personal relationships in business are vital to me. I just cringe when people get on here and talk about saving a couple of hundred bucks on home and auto insurance. I would think a relationship there would serve one also.

But I do things my way, just as everyone else can.

I think the thought process is outdated. I mean every person I talk to at usaa is competent and can do what I need. I think a relationship is great for things like business loans. But banking has been turned into a commodity with you being able to do basically anything you need to online.

Most of the "Bankers" I have met with were pretty worthless and only wanted to meet to me to sell me their products. It's a revolving door of twenty-somethings.

Serious Question: Why should I care that my credit union is not-for-profit? Shouldn't I care only about what's in it for me?

So I should just give you more of my hard earned money because we're pals? Spoken like a true socialist. I'd love to know your position on social security, welfare, and government pensions.

Regions for checking. Primarily because of proximity and no fees.

PenFed for savings. I kept a $100 regular share account to maintain my gas card perks of 5% back on gas purchase and no annual fee. Since then it has become my only savings account because I did not want to manage multiple savings accounts.

I do not think you will find anyone disagreeing with you over the value of personal relationships. However for some on here, their situation does not bode well for developing personal relationships with bankers. Speaking for myself, I have moved four times in the past two years and I have lived in three different cities, while commuting and working in a fourth. My inability to stay seated in one community makes it difficult to develop relationships with the locals. For me right now, things make sense to look for bargains and bank with institutions that fit my region or are nationwide. Once I have located somewhere more permanently, I will understand the need of banking with someone who knows my situation and the area that is local to us.

I have Chase for my main account that I pay bills out of. I love Chase online features including quick pay. I use UCB as my rewards checking b/c they pay 2%.

The top of my pet peeve list is that you cannot find your branch's phone number online. They all re-direct to the toll free main line.

Regions might be the worst bank in America. They don't want you calling a local branch because they want to be able to track every call through corporate. If you have a loan through them it is almost impossible to even get a payoff quote. I honestly don't know how they are even in business.

For many people, the terms “non-profit” and “not for profit” are interchangeable. However, there can be subtle differences between the two.

A “Nonprofit” is generally an organization with a 501(c)3 IRS designation which allows them to receive charitable donations, and have the donor claim such donations on their taxes. Most non-profit organizations are formed around a “cause” or area of focus such as Salvation Army helping the poor, Boy Scouts of America training tomorrow’s leaders, or your local Sertoma civic club promoting hearing health and awareness across the country.

A “not for profit” is an entity which exists to serve a community or cause, but it’s not in the business of soliciting donations, but is rather a more traditionally-run business. The best example of a “not for profit” that I can come up with is a Credit Union. Unlike a bank (blech!), a credit union is charted by and owned by it’s members, so any excess “profit” at the end of the year is returned to it’s members.

Where it is then taxed. The anti-credit union rhetoric tries to lead us to believe there aren't taxes paid on the CU earnings.
